What was the biggest culture shock for you when you got into kpop?

They can't date publicly without It being called a "scandal" and can't showcase any sort of affection

Almost nobody in Asia gives a shit when men wear makeup while even still to this day people in the west seem to be butt hurt when a man says he for example wears concealer to hide a pimple and uses lipbalm with a small bit color in it against his dry lips and than freak out when some guy says he has nail polish at home

Unsubbed content (back in the day)
True.

Yep, this surprised me a bit too, but I’m also glad that Asia as a whole is pretty accepting of men wearing make up. I wish more Western countries would be like this.

Funny enough at the end of the middle age rich men wore white powedered faces and red lips (as like women) to show off how rich they are and only 300 years later their great great grand children be like "yeah no"

Also this
I was extremely suprised to see just how prominent the make up was on the men

Omg yes, i didn't realize that delulu fans couldn't handle their faves being real people and having ordinary relationships and other interactions. How do they think their faves dating is going to affect them? They're not ever going to date them themselves. It doesn't even matter

Some of my friends in the US really have a problem with the makeup and styling. They even think overall that the idols chosen to debut are too "feminine looking" in general. It's such a strange mindset for me

Conservative in what ways?

Along those lines, i wish the men around me were as comfortable showing affection towards each other and emotion in general as kpop idols.

And men wore heels and pink used to be a color that was seen as a guys color. All these so called standards of masculinity are just bs social constructs.

streaming....like??
Coz it's a competition according to some!

aegyo
This. Idk what's so endearing about idols talking or behaving like babies.
-
aegyo
Ugh i wish we would stop with the aegyo (unless the idol actually likes it). I wish we would also stop trying to act like grown men and women are children
-
I appreciate that they feel like they can show affection if they want to (guys in my country literally hate to sit next to eachother) but the forced skinship for entertainment sucks
-
Oh yeah, the strict age hierarchy surprised me, especially when it's between people only a few years apart

Honorifics + Aegyo

I was a kpop fan for a long time but I kept to myself, I never talked to other fans. When I went on stan twitter…. That. The constant fanwars. I learned a whole new dictionary from the swearing the throw at each other.
I will never understand the vitriol thrown around simply for liking different music

I couldn't believe that visual was an actual position

Ong, i find that so aggravating, especially when they break up a song to show audiences reacting to a high note

Conservative in what ways?
Their society is conservative, so, as a consequence, K-pop is too.
As I said, they can't date publicly, or It's a big deal.
They can't have opinions on politics, or It's a big deal.
A female idol can't read a feminist book, or It's a big deal
They can't sing about sex, or It's a big deal
They can't have a child, especially before marriage, or they are asked to be removed from the group.
Etc
K-pop overall is very friendly for conservative people, since the idols act a lot like they are frigid robots without critical thinking and sexual interest. There are exceptions, ofc.

It would be so much better if people would stop dragging others just to phrase their own favs.
And camping on other peoples fandom accounts.
Majority of the problem comes from these things.
I agree. Multiple groups can be great at the same time. No need to insult one for the other to be awesome
