The demand for representation in Kpop is bigger now than it was for 5 years ago.

  • I notice this issue has been talked about a lot amongst the chatters on sns. Not only in other asian countries outside the East Asia sphere, but also europeans, africans, latin-americans and even middle-easterns. And now, they are getting their chance. Kind of shows Kpop companies do see the value of having international stan. Maybe some of those countries are not big album buyers, but they can create a lot of noise and hype their groups up. Examples: BlackSwan and Secret Number.

  • from fans, maybe. i don't see any companies reaching out of asia. well, big companies at least

  • Bollywood is Kpop'ish. Someone starts singing and the entire town starts dancing. XD

The other day in a Grocery store heard TWICE and BTS played in the background.

Nah cause tell me where tf I am wrong. You have little blasian kids in SK who have nothing to look up to in the idol industry. But instead of letting Michelle Lee or another blasian idol have the “first black idol” title it’s given to some random black girls to appease random international kboos.

It’s an insult to the intelligence of black kpop who recognize a blatant gimmick and for what? Why her? Why not give a half black half korean a trainee period just like any other idol???? Holy shit. I am sick of us black people accepting the BARE MINIMUM. Not all of us are sheep who cannot see this blatant fuck shit

true you have a point about that. I seen most of half black half korean teens become models like jennypark.

You weren’t being ignorant at all love! I didn’t mean to have you think I was coming for you. You just posted some emojis lol.

But yeah when I first stated that comment it’s sort a vague and I may come across as negative. But once you break it down and really observe the situation for what it is it leaves a SOUR taste in the mouth. I been a black kpop fan for almost 12 years and the closest thing to the ONLY black representation that makes genuine sense, (blasians specifically half koreans) we are met with not one, but 2 gimmicks?!? It’s actual bullshit.

  • Korea is not a multi cultural country why would it need representation.

Representation is about the people of the country. Having Chinese or Japanese idols wasn’t about “representation” it was about becoming appealing in those countries that’s all.

If kpop becomes mainstream and can generate money the way it does in Asian countries I’m sure idols from other countries may be added. But it will have nothing to do with “representation”.

  • diversification is a good thing and hopefully there is more representation within the big4

Sounds good on paper but rarely works out in reality. With idols being Sea its easier as the culture, work ethic etc is atlest mostly similar to Korea making the transition much easier.

Not so the case with westerners. Second too many fake woke bs. We get enough flak here in Korea about some bs ca claims. I don't think we need to have that turned into something worse because the fake woke got mad the lead singer of bts 3.0 is black, white, Hispanic etc or is token this or ca that. Those fake woke folk ruin things like diversification

I can agree with that...but as kpop gets bigger there will naturally be more people from different parts of the world that wanna be one hence the diversification part - I'm certainly not suggesting there be quotas or anything lol but I'm sure there are plenty of talented people from all over the world that wish to be a kpop idol and if they can study the language and as you said more importantly the culture maybe they'll fit in
