He said bc they hired a lawyer to represent SHINee's interest in contract negotiations while most people just rely on the company's lawyers.

Their first or second contract? Established idols renegotiating their contract are in a very different situation compared to rookies just about to debut.

Kpop idols/trainees have absolutely no leverage to use against the company to make demands before signing their first contract. It is just a take what you get situation, they are all desperate for a chance to debut and they already have trainee debts. Most of them have a legal representative when renewing their contracts. I think they just go back to using the company's legal representative after renewing so they don't have a separate one throughout the period of the second contract.

Im talking about idols like Wonho and Soojin, I would think they did make enough money to afford legal representations
idk about Soojin since I didn't follow anything, but Starship's lawyers helped Wonho clear the matter. It's why he's still with them under Highline.
I personally don't even think Starship is who kicked him out. I fully believe he made that decision on his own because people were targeting the other members as well. I remember that being the first time I remember that being the first time I saw Kihyun's bullying accusations and there was even a rumor about Shownu being involved in an affair with a married woman.
Most idols on their first contract are buried in trainee debt and/or are completely at the mercy of their labels to make them popular and rich...eventually. Until they blow up, they have very little leverage. The only exceptions are those idols that come from well off families that can afford expensive lawyers to deal with the label's very expensive lawyers.
But yes, i agree that ideally, every idol is represented by someone who speaks solely to their interests and not the company's.
What I don’t like about kpop is that idols are too reliant to the company. Honestly Companies are doing 90% of the job, idols have the just to dance, sing and going to events.
