When people in the West use "Asians" they are using it in terms of ethnicity not geography.

"Asians" as a term in the US is used for CJK and SEA mainly. The truth is those cultures and peoples are broadly related you know? People from South Asia and the Middle East are not. So "Asians" becomes a very inaccurate term when you tried to make it a cultural and ethnic concept when it is nothing more than geographical thing.

Okay, so you live on the other end of this landmass? But so what? What are the cultural and people connections?

Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Thais, Filipinos and Indonesians are connected culturally, economically and a broader sense even racially. A Korean, Hmong or Vietnamese can be attacked -- and have been attacked -- for being mistaken for Chinese. An Indian or Armenian would not be.

A Korean celeb with a picture from that shrine would be cancelled too. The Yasukuni shrine is infamous in both places for the same reason.

If China were piss poor and couldn't support idols nobody would have any problrms with them.

The fact is China took about 800 million people out of poverty and became the only non-white country capable to challenging Western dominance which is why to people in English speaking forums it has become an issue.

BTW. This is why you see Chinese idols in KPOP.

If Hong Kong’s numbers are included ($3 billion), South Korea sold more than twice as much to China as to the US.

Korea as a whole not just KPOP depends on the Chinese market.

Korea could cut itself off from China completely given the hostility but it doesn't because then it'll die on the vine economically.

YH will get their groups some coverage. Look at Everglow's MV quality. (And hits.)

And despite people saying EG is not well supported in Korea, YH still gets their members on shows. Running Man is one of Korea's main if not the top variety show for idols. EG had been on several times and appeared along side stars like Hyuna and Ailee.

All male idols should understand that they are idols only because of female fans. We are the ones who spend money to support them. But sometimes we need to look at the people leading the fans (NOT the victims.)

If you follow Kris' story there were members of his fan clubs who protected him before and after the allegations. Worse, there were stories that they aided Kris in recruiting victims. The leaders and memberships of those clubs are overwhelmingly women.

I have my doubts that the majority of male idols won't abuse this power if given the chance.

That's why I feel better supporting girl groups.

I thought Zhang Loufei "Dolly" would have greater impact on the IFans (Youtube) with her visuals than on Koreans or Chinese for that matter.

She doesn't have the classic East Asian standard that you see in the other girls on the list.

She's very pretty but her visuals are a bit foreign even more so than Somi who is mixed.

I'm not sure Wonyoung wants to be promoted in China. It's complicated and based on speculation but you can tell by her silence on the matter of being Chinese we should respect her actions even if she hadn't said thing openly.

It really started at the beginning of PD48 when MNET initially posted her name with Chinese tranliteration. MNET get their information on each trainee from their agency so it is assumed that Starship released her Chinese name to MNET as Chang Yuanying:

But this was taken down a day or two later and replaced with Jang Wonyoung. Why is left to conjecture.

We know that Wonyoung's father is an owner of a Chinese restaurant.

He is hwagyo, a Chinese-Korean, who was born in Korea but whose parents came from Shandong, China. Because of politics, most hwagyos who came from mainland China have Republic of China (Taiwan) passports though they might never been to Taiwan.

Hwagyos were heavily discriminated against despite running restaurants that created Korea's iconic jajiang noodles dish. This video gives you some understanding of the issues:

The more I read of this, the more disturbed I am not only of this guy but his fans the vast majority of whom are women.

I like boys and boygroups but I feel far more comfortable stanning GGs now. It started with Burning Sun. I always felt it was far more widespread because when men have this kind of power, they more often than not abuse it.
