Probably twice since they were digitally dominant + won a lot of daesangs for it

Twice and aespa debut year trajectory is kinda similar but cheer up was #1 on gaon year end chart plus TT was a national hit in japan

BTS weren't really big in korea topping the chart always like right now

IU was on a music break, she didn't release anything in 2016 and focused on her acting career

the only real digital monster who came back in 2016 was sistar and it happen in the summer, wo they ahd way less time than Twice to gather digital point

nonetheless what Twice did was really amazing, but it's dumb to compare twice being "dominant" digitally in a year with no big digital act

in comparison of Aespa releasing a hit in a year where big digital act like BTS, and IU have been very prolific in term of music

NL didn't win more daesangs than CU. Literally the only major daesang it won is yesterday's KMA one. CU on the other hand won daesangs at every major award show.

Also, before BTS there was EXO as the top BG group in SK. Big Bang made a comeback too. BP had a smash hit at debut. Not to mention hit OSTs of shows like Love In The Moonlight and DOTS. GFriend was also considered as TWICE's rival in 2016 and Navillera made it to Gallup year end list so to say no big digital act made released a song is stupid to say the least. IU and BTS aren't the only acts to do well digitally.

I think Blackpink yes Twice was very successful in Korea. But Blackpink has been very popular both international and in Korea since their debut.

Locally - Twice (aespa is close but Twice also had Japan)
