I'm listening to Whistle right now and it's so good. I always wondered why Boombayah got a lot more attention than Whistle. Was it because of the vibe change? I feel like Whistle is a whole different genre from Boombayah sometimes, and different concepts for some reason...what do you think?
Why is Whistle so overlooked as one of Blackpink's Debuts?

BBY is more popular internationally but whistle is more popular in korea that's why it's the one that had PAKs and talked about more domestically

I just think people like boombayah more, whistle seems more chill and less hype than boombayah and everyone thinks debuts should be hype and big.

That's my issue too, Whistle is one of better songs BP has, but there are many mediocre songs that got way more recognition
-
People prefer their dance choruses to something like Whistle.
So when you have Boombayah beside it which is this pure EDM song, it’s going to get overlooked.
At least to me Whistle doesn’t really have a dance factor to it, it’s more something I’d chill out and listen to.
-
Because the song is bad
-
I really like Whistle, but I suspect it’s the lack of a big “singalong” chorus like the other BP songs that became larger.

Exposure to Hip-Hop/Rap might be a prerequisite to really knowing the dope-ness of "Whistle" early.
For example, being aware of tracks like Mobb Deep's "Quiet Storm", Busta Rhyme's "Gimme Some More" or some older tracks in the Legendary Timbaland's production catalog like "Cop That Disc", "Pass That Dutch", "Big Head", and "Ugly". These songs illustrate that not having a lot going on in a track is more of a Hip-Hop sensiblity. Filling the entire "soundspace" of a song with something is a usual Pop music practice.

whistle is the song that hooked me to BP at the first place in 2018- 2 years after it released.

whistle is actually more popu

whistle is like my favorite song from them. it's such a chill song with a catchy chorus and of course the rap is nice

Whistle was more popular when it was released alongside boombayah. It has that chill vibe (or should i call R&B) which was very popular in kpop back then. Hence it went on to hit #1 on all charts and achieved PAK and won BP their first trophy on music show.
Of course when Boombayah was released, its MVs and dance practice was more popular as it is more focused on dance than whistle.
Overtime, as more new fans join the fandom and the music industry shift to EDM, there's where Boombayah started to gain more popularity on all streaming sites. And whistle get over looked.

Whistle is overrated by the fandom. Nobody really likes it, it came out in 2016 and is almost in last place in terms of streams on YT, i think only Stay has less streams when it comes to title tracks.

It is just that kpop music trend has shifted. This kind of chill vibe songs were super popular back then in kpop until EDM completely took over. Boombayah didnt do well on chart at all (less than 5 weeks charted IIRC)
