I'm pitiful and only really know English because I decided to take the easy mode Latin over German or Spanish I'd adore learning a new language but I do best with in-person learning and that's not really an option again yet
-
Portuguese (mother language), English, French, Italian and I can understand some Spanish, but I can't speak it.

If you guys want to understand a foreign language, just consume a ton of content in that language that has context.
Watch shows on Netflix in your target language, the key is to pay attention and do not use subtitles in your native language. If you use subtitles in your native language, it defeats the point.
Watch a few hours a day and you will be surprised at how much you understand in that language after a few months.

It is also more enjoyable than doing grammar exercises, workbooks, flashcards, and conjugation tables. I feel like you acquire more of the language by being immersed in it through things like shows anyways.

absolutely. you may not know all of the meaning and deeper things but in the end, if you can communicate you've got the language down in my books.
