Do you also found strange when Koreans praise someones 'nose', 'jaw', 'eye shape'?

  • Is it something like 'replacement' of the way we here in Europe praise someones eye color?

I've never damn heard any of my male/female friends praising someone else nose, jaw, eye shape, it's like non existent thing here...

  • well it's as weird

than people in western country praising the body of someone because she have a big butt or big boobs

or praising a guy because he have nice abs '-'

nice abs is something that you work for in gym

or when like idol you are very skinny then it might show up just because you have dance practices etc.

big butt you can also work yourself on that

big boobs on the other hand are natural thing, that I can understand to be praised but it's also a thing which can very easy to trick. so it with my own eyes when bra and pads were gone, it felt like last warrior on the battlefield broke his sword and died in vain of deep wounds. (lol)

I've recently posted that comparison of differences between dating J and K girls. Also even in My teenage girl survival the 'mom' of the show has taken some girls to plastic surgery clinic because one girl had complex about her fluffy cheeks, and doctor calmly explained that she is still growing, and that she will lose some baby fat when she will be older, and that plastic surgery isn't something that she should do, rather than that she should brightly smile.

So you know here is also for all those: 'tall nose' mentions....

  • no it's not that strange, it's different.

each country just have different "marker" of beauty.

idk about Europe, but in the US we also praise people's eye color. i heard the "you have pretty eyes" often (even though not directed to me), or "nice tan" sometime. People also get complimented on their abs here, or gun (bicep/arms), hair color (or hairstyle), or legs (but less people do it now since it can come across creepy). Girl would sometime even compliment each other boob (depending on how close they are)

  • I guess it’s Korea beauty standard

If you a shaved jaw, small eyes and sharp nose you are considered pretty

    the shade tho!

"if you have a shaved jaw" :pepe-hehe:

  • It makes me uncomfortable sometimes ngl

but where I'm from they sure look at eyes a lot, probably in most countries

but telling someone you have a nice nose.. never heard that ^^ :S

  • I mean it happens in the US too... It's just slightly different. We often talk about square jaws on men, full lips, getting a cupid bow look for lips, the bridge of your nose, even hairlines and widow's peaks.

It's just that we don't usually say "oh your lip shape is nice" we just say "oh you have nice lips".

  • I want to know if Koreans consider Angelina Jolie and Margot Robbie attractive. Because they both have strong angular jawlines (which would have been mostly left behind in a clinic before their 16th birthdays if they were rich Koreans).

It's interesting that some of our examples of beautiful features to aspire to can be found on regular Koreans and they dislike them (tanned skin, almond shaped eyes (or at least not round, I've never heard someone praised here for having big round eyes), strong bone structure) and vice versa here. I know so many people who facially look somewhat like a boiled egg, weak bone structure. They would probably kill it in Seoul...
