It annoys me a lot seeing negative comments about female idols with deeper voices, for example people saying certain members should be pushed over them because they have a high pitched voice despite the fact that said member is a way weaker vocalist than them and strains their voice to sound high pitched to begin with. Don't they hear that a lot of them are destroying their voices to achieve sounds that are not natural to them? Where is this obsession coming from?
Why are some knetz seemingly obsessed with female idols having exclusively high pitched voices and nothing else

people keep wanting rose to go back to her deep voice in her gdragon feature

I've seen this a lot recently and especially for example about ITZY where people are saying that the group is failing (LOL, as if), because all of the members but Yuna have deeper voices and that Yuna should be the only one pushed because she has a higher pitched voice (? which is? strange to say in my opinion). No hate to Yuna whatsoever, I actually think she's center material for sure.

I've only seen the opposite that you mentioned from international fans and what I'm talking about in the OP from Korean fans.

Why are Koreans so tasteless, I don't like high pitch vocals. Sounds childish to me. Vocalists with deep tones usually sound more enjoyable for me. For example, Wendy and Seulgi are very enjoyable to listen to because they have wide vocal ranges and are not overly high-pitched. I also like soprano tones like Joy, because Joy's tone is crystal clear and very interesting. natural tone is the best.

My theory is that this is all part of the infantilization of female idols. Same reason why they're always asked to do aegyo, taught to speak in cutesie voices, get aegyosal shots and get those straight eyebrow makeovers - they make everyone look more innocent and naive.

it's not about the high/low pitch of voices though. It's about being on key and pitch. Like they dont ask Yuqi to change her voice. Lee Hi is one of the premiere vocalist in SK and she is a mezzo and they love her voice.
Like Park Hyoshin?? He forcefully darkens his voice. And koreans LOVE him. Sungjae, they like his voice as well.

Also I felt like Hyewon was wasted too, she had this whole arc of becoming a rapper in PD48 but in IZ*ONE she barely had lines.

Those last two are men and I'm talking about comments for female idols I've seen being made which I've explained further in this thread. Not about being on key and pitch.

I personally like female idols with deeper voices I wish they could showcase their lower register more but when it comes to girl groups is all about high pitched notes.
-
I think Koreans just in general for some reason love high pitch. Not only for girls. I haven't watched produce series, but I've seen some cuts and videos from performances and literally in every one of them there was an idol who stands and screams some high pitch note and it's highlighted by reactions as some peak of vocals and vocalists' skill (and if idols cracks then it becomes the biggest drama). And for girls, at least idols, Koreans love those cute thin kinda high voices even in overall so probably it just transpass into singing as well.

It's the first time that I hear about Knetzs criticising female idols for their deep voice. They have no issue with Girl's Day, Jeongyeon, Hani... It's probably a bunch of haters who want to hate on Itzy. It's true that the high-pitched voice is used a lot though in the Kpop industry, probably to attract a certain audience.

I have also given examples of women with deeper tones. When i see a criticism about women with deeper tones, it isnt really about them not having higher tone, but them being offkey. For example, Lia gets good response on some of her covers, bad on others. That is because Lia can sometimes go offkey. That said, i really wouldnt describe Lia's tone as deep, but she does excellent on her low notes

Yeah but you and I are talking about different things to begin with. You're talking about valid criticism while I'm talking about weird comments I've been seeing.
