What the hell is up with China? I have a lot of questions.

  • Ikw there's some new law but why does tzuyu bar and other idol bars need to change their names? I get that it's a good riddance since kpop involves irrational spending but this honestly seems like a way for ccp to flex their power instead. I heard theres a ban on video game timings too...its weird as hell.

I'm not gonna touch on the atrocities on uyghurs I had the misfortune of reading that such things still exist to this day. How does such a big country manage to enforce and control its citizens in the modern age? Internet is freely available and people can organize revolts. Is the ccp popular with the gp/youth in china? How does cpop culture coexist with ccp? Will these bans affect the cpop industry aswell?

  • "Internet is freely available and people can organize revolts."

Organization of revolts is the most closely monitored/censored + throughout history revolts never ended well for Chinese people (maybe no country had more revolts and the results were usually 10+ Million dead and never a better government than before.)

"Is the ccp popular with the gp/youth in china?"

Generally yes, doesn't mean they support everything they do though. It gives prosperity, stability, and strength though and it's said that "Do you support the CCP?" for Chinese people is like "Do you support air?", it's just there.

"How does cpop culture coexist with ccp?"

Neither China nor the CCP is as monolith as the CCP pretends to be, so there's different fractions. Also China isn't North Korea.

"Will these bans affect the cpop industry aswell"

Yeah definitely, I mean it's the main target, and it's kind of unclear what the long-term outcome will be as of now.

(I'm not Chinese but have a lot of Chinese friends in real life & follow Chinese-language discourse outside and inside the Great Firewall.)

  • Trump supports use similar argument that people are being controlled to take the vaccine. So you have to see it from the perspective of Chinese. They believe what they are doing to be the right thing, and there's historic evidence.

They view the irrational acts of their youth as a serious vulnerability to the survival of their civilization, as in Chinese culture there's been constant cycles of being taken over by outside forces, including Chinese themselves. Similar to their severe punishment towards drugs.

Look how they are STILL using an ancient form of writing that went out of style 5,000 years ago in Western societies. They take their culture very seriously similarly to how the west takes towards freedom and the middle east towards religion. Fish in different ponds will always be different fish.

Bro, they ban ig, fb, twitter etc

They can use Weibo and they get deleted real fast.

Revolts? See what’s going on in HK. No no😊.

Support the people though - they didn’t ask for this.

  • I don't think limiting gaming time on the youth is weird at all as game addict has been a serious issue for some time. Still, 3 hours weekly seems too harsh.

I read that most Uyghur lived peacefully. I read that, previously, Uyghur lived conservative Islamic culture, extreme patriarch, girls married young and were discouraged to pursue higher education so, 2 genders became more equal after CCP's draconic intervention.

I hope they ban people from eating bats too

That would've saved millions of lives

CCP has banned selling wild animal in any market shortly after it was speculated that the wild animal meat segment of the biggest market in Wuhan was the beginning of the outbreak.

Mate. Since I know how it works (the behind of the scene).

The internet is not free in China.

All their servers who touch outside servers are monitored and filtered.

You cannot access outside servers without VPN's which are illegal in China.

If you are caught with a VPN you go to jail. Period.

My company has clients in China, and we had to get a special release from the Gov in order for them to be able to access it (since the server is in AUS).

Ironic that Mao started the madness that is the cultural revolution and now uses Chinese culture when it fits their narrative.

By the way, China is using simplified Chinese which came into being in the 1960s. Only Taiwan and Hong Kong are still using traditional Chinese.

On another news, "xi jinping's thought" became compulsory school subject a couple days ago.

  • The way I made this thread and forgot. Sorry

Ahh by chinese do you mean the Chinese people like the older gen or the CCP? I didn't understand the part of being taken by outside forces like themselves...the last para makes a lotta sense tbh but I think a solid portion of the public and military need to back it for it to work.

By ban on fb and all...is it a strict one like say someone who's caught using those sites will be punished harshly or is it more of a slap on the wrist? Social media like weibo and stuff it kinds encourages self expression. It might be risky to the CCP.

Woah. I wonder how they monitor such a huge country. Do they filter all content before it reaches person but places like weibo and stuff what will happen if a person posts something inflammatory it gains some traction but not enough to be noticed. Does it stay up or do the people themselves report it or do they have people to track down anti ccp sentiment? I can't fathom how they can manage to control such a big country...

Thank you! Does idol/celebrity culture threathen any of its values? Is there any ideology amongst the gp such as anti ccp? Like is ccp ideology more popular with all gens or just the older ones. I once read that it was often older people that populate chinese villages and they have ccp propaganda hoisted on temples aswell. Is that true?

Ah I wasn't aware of the history of revolts in China? Has there been any in recent years besides hongkong?

I think what's most concerning about idol culture nowadays for the CCP is how super structured and organized it is. They don't like independent organized groups because they can easily get triggered and have structures to reach a lot of people in short time. Plus the fanwars and stuff, CCP is into "stability" and "avoiding chaos" online too.

I don't really know that many details, I guess it may depend on the individual points of the ideology where some may be more or less popular with certain demographics.

In recent years there haven't really been such revolts for the reasons mentioned, I'm talking about the historical ones like whenever the dynasty changed... Like in the NINTH century the An Lushan Rebellion against the Tang dynasty killed tens of millions. Killing tens of millions would be super major in the 20th century, now imagine that scope with 9th century population sizes. Result was that the Tang dynasty lived on, but people's living conditions were messed up for decades. Even earlier, around 2nd century, the Yellow Turban rebellion against the Eastern Han, around 5 Million dead, unsuccesful in the end. The Ming-Qing dynasty transition in the 17th century, 25 Million dead. Not like the Qing dynasty was much better than the Ming in the end. Then the religious/ethnic insurgencies in 19th century Qing (which are a large reason for today's attitudes towards religiously/ethnically motivated dissent). The religiously motivated Taiping Rebellion, over 30 Million dead. The Dungan revolt of Muslims, over 10 Million dead. Then the Chinese civil war, because of the dissatisfaction with the Republican government. 10 Million dead, Republican government defeated, CCP rule established.
