Did the Produce curse not affect SOMI after all?

SOMI started her solo career as a damn near superstar coming off of IOI, ITZY has a standard idol group growth.
and MITM being the thing that it was, is doing better than all previously releases on spotify, and GUESS WHO is doin the best in general.
KPOP is more then just melon and korean charts these days

Nah, she punched the curse off

I don't think she's doing bad internationally tho, I was just listening to Dumb Dumb and out of curiosity went to see her followers numbers on Deezer and she's at 100k, that's not bad for a "nugu" streaming platform and Korean soloist. I don't have spotify numbers because I don't use it. Somi has a lot of potential but BlackLabel hasn't been pushing her enough, Dumb Dumb will keep climbing charts as she promotes because the song is awesome.

I understand, but she debuted later and with just 2 songs, disappeared and came back again after one year with just one song and hiatus again.
Dou you understand that this doesn't help her career neither gives her an established fanbase or enough public recognition as a solo or you only care bc she is under YGE/IOI?
Being the center on a famous group is different from having to start a solo career.

Why are people dragging other artists here? Is Somi that big to be compared to whole groups ?
And to answer OP, I think IOI big 3 (sejeong, chungha and somi) have broken that "curse", they all are doing great considering their circumstances. It's really telling that none of the Wanna One or X1 boys have ever charted on melon daily chart since their groups disbanded (except nuest during their first cb as 5 members and Kang Daniel's debut probably?) and aside from Daniel, their cfs numbers and fandom power is really low. The girls are doing way better at that

i think it's more about people lowering their expectations for her and herself finding her sound and image
when she debuted with Birthday people weren't happy and ready to support her because she debuted with an image and sound that people didn't expected her to do knowing somi for years, and had too big expectations for her considering she was very trendy, and the center of IOI
then she change her sound and image for what you're waiting for for something more mature, and more "normal" in comparison of birthday who was consider as messy by a lot of people, it's like she heard the complaint of the fans and made a comeback base on this
the song was more generic and easy to listen to but didn't have the very energic sound of birthday
the aesthetic of the MV was less colorful it was more mature in the color palette while still keeping a teen image
and for Dumb dumb it seems like she finally find the right middle between What you're waiting for and Birthday
the verse give a type of what you're waiting for verse, with a chorus kinda like birthday
and the MV have the mature teen type of What you're waiting for , with hints of color like birthday
i think people always kept an eye on Somi, she just herself as an artist didn't find our sound and image
and i think she finally did it with Dumb dumb
and it's clear to see because she seems much more bright and happy to perform dumb dumb than she looks on stage during her precedent songs
and a lot of people highlighted this in the past saying she lost the brightness and energy she had during IOI , and i personally think that she's bringing back this energy lately
