Disappointments, Highs, & Surprises (A Personal Assessment Of A Few Recent Girl Groups)

  • I'll be waiting to hear more from LIGHTSUM. I like Nayoung in the group. So I want to like their stuff haha

I'm not as familiar with LIGHTSUM aside from their debut track, which I didn't stick with me, but any new fourth-gen content is a win for me!

Would love for Weeekly, STAYC, woo!ah!, Secret Number, and LIGHTSUM to have a collaborative stage. There's so much in terms of potential, and there are still groups that haven't debuted yet.

  • I really like Nayoung in that group. But only saw their debut song and I wasn't wowed or anything.

They have any other stuff yet? Like covers or something?

    they have for example this

    Ohhhhhh Nayoung's pretty voice!

  • Some other groups to check out are listed in this thread.

  • Next Level is a typical stupid SM song, but aespa is FAR ahead of their young peers vocally and visually. Give them the right material and they will become legends.

Of course, I said that about Red Velvet in 2014 and SM still hasn't given them any decent material, so...

In what world does Red Velvet not have any decent material? Surely you can't mean music? They have one of the best/most respected discographies in the history of K-pop. I wouldn't even have to be a stan to make that statement. It's just facts.

  • I missed LUNARSOLAR? Got a rec from them?

Here's their debut song, released on Sep 2, 2020. Their choreo was simple but addictive and they used to change a part for every stage on music shows which was a great idea to make each stage unique.

Their first comeback song, released on April 7, 2021. It's very much in line with their debut song. The single also includes two side tracks.

But what really put them on my radar is this live medley they uploaded right before debut. The standout in my opinion is their leader E.Seo (second on the left).
