Should music tv shows make digital points matter less?

  • Not hating on any artist on the list, just want to show you one thing.

The max digital points score varies in different music shows but it's still hella high. For example, look how IU will dominate with Celebrity without even releasing a physical album.

Physical album sales with max 1000 points, when digital max points is... 5500, this seems seriously out of place. Just look how Dreamcatcher and Golden Child could be disqualified from Inkigayo rank just because of not too many digitals.

I wish that at least one music show will finally create some new system which will be much more reasonable.

  • To be honest, there's no perfect scoring system. But yes, in this case it's tricky because you pit against each other digital-only releases and albums with both a physical and digital version.

Unless you sum all the sales up and put them under the same category (where 1 physical = 1 digital), those "inequities" are bound to happen.

  • big disagree.

Remember that it is a "music" show.

Why does sales physical matter? Why is mv views matter? Why is vote matter?? In fact, I want digital points higher, and physical sales and vote matter less.

  • No, digitals should be the most important since the base of music shows is to showcase the most popular SONGS of the week, not who has the biggest fandom, the show exists for any easy win - digitals are important and tie to a groups legacy, pandering to avoid talking about lack of it for groups helps no one

Exactly, it would be so silly to see a song that barely charted win over songs that actually get listened to.

  • Streaming platforms make up the majority of korean sites and charting so if a group can sell 400k but cant get even 1mill index on gaon then no, not enough people are listening to them

It was not the topic hand at hand. We were discussing physical sales vs digital sales. How they should be counted towards the overall score. We were not talking streaming numbers.

  • Oh, if the digital part of the scoring system is actually about streaming numbers, well ok then! It makes actually more sense this way for sure.

Its not fully it since it also has the bgm (background music) and dowloads chart but since 2018 streaming as been the primary digital music sale for s korea so it does make up a large part, obviously international streaming, ie spotify for right now, should be irrelevant in regards to music shows - tho not completely unimportant bc it id a good indicator of international fandom but you probably know that so now Im just rambling lol

  • If anything we should decrease YT views because those can be botted and increase physicals in their place. Digitals are more important than physicals to determine the biggest release of the week.

  • These shows should only recognize acts that actually take the time to perform on them. Makes no sense to give awards to someone who's not even there to accept them.

That I fully agree. (G)I-DLE competed several times against BTS lately. Yet they were not on location? Was it because they knew they didn't win? Because they didn't care? Still, it makes for a weird reveal when the MCs try to build some tension between the two groups but only one of them is present. Just give their chance to someone else then.

  • it should be retained but scoring weight or system can be revisited.

i'd really hate music shows becoming attendance music shows as well. real bop songs should win regardless and not someone who attended.
