How often do you think this situation happen in SM, JYP, and YG?
-
-
I think there is an age limit even for auditions so like
Kpop in general.
-
all the time unfortunately
-
-
Well it's obvious kpop on general abides this sort of thinking as many many idols debut at young ages like 17, 16 and 15. There was even plans for a group of like 10 year oldsi think
-
The big 3 have debuted older than average female idols
Bom and Dara in 2ne1, Fei in miss A, Victoria and Irene in RV and fx. But it seems their most recent groups go for the usual younger idols
Cube is the worst, they never debuted girls older than 20, with the exception of Miyeon. Now lightsum oldest member is 18 years old and the youngest is a late 2006 liner
-
All the time, other companies too. It sadly reflects the public prejudice, when Irene debuted she was called ahjumma and other names. Vocal focused girlgroups usually debuts "older" woman (Brown Eyed Girls, Mamamoo, Purple Kiss).

this happens everywhere and is a very fundamental thing in this industry. haven't u ever seen audition notices? there's something called age qualifications
-
-
Not that often compared to smaller labels.
Smaller ones tend to be much stricter with these kinds of shts to guarantee success
-
-
Here is a list of successful ones, there are probably many that also debuted late, but their groups never became popular.
Girl's Day Sojin 26
After School Kahi 28
2NE1 Dara 24
2NE1 Park Bom 25
RED VELVET Irene 23
Then there is
Lee Gai Baby Box over 30
-
Companies are bad for this but let's not act like Kpop fans don't a role into this they always refer to idols in their 30 old grandpas and grandmas and they tell them that they should retire when in fact 30 year old is relatively young heck people strat a new career at that age.
Small note: i noticed that generally big 3 aren't that strict when it comes to age, when Blackpink made their debut Just was 21 and Lisa was 19 it's not old but it's not that young either same thing with Red velvet they had Irene at 23 and Joy at 18 and same thing for Twice
-
It's actually worse in the nugu companies but yeah in the eyes of some, idols have an expiration date related to age and popularity.
