It only makes sense. 2018-2019 groups are no longer rookies yet they barely made any noise. 3rd gen lasted 2014 - 2019, that’s 6 years which is enough time for a generation change, unlike what we’ve initially thought wherein 2018 was the start of 4th gen (which makes 3rd gen lasting only 4 years) Also during twice and gfriend debut years, they were already dominating and overthrowing top GGs. RV also solidified their position in just 2 years within rookie years. meanwhile, itzy loona everglow are still struggling to overthrow the top groups unlike aespa and stayc which is starting to surpass twice now. As expected SM always open up the new generation.
2018 - 2019 groups are 3.5 gen

Wrong. EXO started 3rd gen when they debuted in 2012...
It lasted 6 years...
Stray Kids started 4th gen.

Boy groups start a new generation earlier than girl groups. For example, 2nd gen ggs only started in 2007 and 3rd gen ggs only started in 2014

oh boi
this gen discussion is about to get messy soon

Definitely. They don’t want to be behind competition after all. I feel like cube obviously debuted g-idle as a 3rd gen group (their whole sound and concept is very 3rd gen) while JYP tried to start the new generation early but failed since obviously BP and other 3rd gen groups were still blowing up.

Makes sense now that I think about it, the groups that debuted during late 2017-2019 didn't seem to belong to a clear cut generation. I guess 2019 can be considered early 4th gen if we want to push it however there's no way 2017-2018 groups can be seen as rookies.
Groups that debuted from 2020 onward are in an unique situation due to the pandemic, that's what makes them different from the previous generation imo.
-
??? Tons of 3rd gen groups are disbanding already. Top GGs like TWICE and MMM are already passed their peak. Red Velvet is a toss up tbh but realistically they will get shafted soon too. BP is an anomaly obviously and we can’t just consider them as a normal gg.

JYP seem like they're rushing. They should have kept itzy until twice contract was ending or whatever. They couldn't keep up with 3rd generation groups but now more groups are debuting as 4th gen this would be the best time to release a new group

omg is third gen gg, just 2 groups from 2020 have done well and u dont know how their cmb wil do, no groups for the 4th gen sell more or svt, exo, dream or bts
stayc cmb wasnt long ago and their charting in br already drop belong 3r gen groups, they dont even rank in melon search along other ggs and even below itzy and gidle who U mention
if u dictate a gen each time a gg get a hit we could be in the 12gen by 3r gen standard

2020 does seem more appropriate as the start of a new generation :D

OMG is a late bloomer and dun dun dance didn’t really make an impact either (just a follow up to their smash hits but didn’t really live up to the hype). AND THIS IS FOR GIRL GROUPS ONLY. CAN YOU STOP bringing SVT, exo, dream to the discussion…Also to your next point about StayC, I don’t see them falling off anytime soon and I’m sure koreans would eat it up too since they filled the void TWICE and IZONE left. We shouldn’t underestimate Weeekly too since they’re quickly rising. And with 2021-2022 rush of debuts (ygngg, hybengg, jypngg), it reminds me of 2014 - 2015

isn't it up to koreans and the korean media to decide exactly if and when the 4th gen starts???

u dont define gens just for gg, are u dumb?
u said omg fall off but u dont see stayc falling of? its just biaseness
they reach 1 in gaon but whatver song 2020 groups had are bigger bc u said so instead of charting?
u bias whoever debut in 2020 and if they fall off or their cmb dont do as well u wil pull excuses
thats funny

thanks bestie Had a hard time finding it but i was sure there was an article about it

interesting
I will count 2019 groups as 4th gen but 4th gen officially started in 2020 which is why companies are debuting new girl groups. Boy groups tend to debut earlier than girl groups in the same gen.

Then when do you think the new gen would start

Then when do you think the new gen would start
I dont think, the media as in naver have posted enough info on it
like I said, u cant dictate gen by the time ggs have hits bc 1) they might not folow them 2) u would start other gen every 3 months
before 2020 nobody call itzy or txt 3r gen, u can change things bc they look convenient

I saw. Purple kiss inclusion is still hilarious
Gotta put it like this, third gen started in 2012, nobody say it started in 2015 when twice debut or 2016 when they got cheer up or BP/IOI debut everybody know it started in 2012 with exo, VIXX, bap, BtoB, AOA debuting follow by BTS next year, nobody call them gen 2.5
Do u get me?
-
It's Brave Girls actually
Debut in 2nd Gen
New lineup in 3rd Gen
Become famous in 4th Gen
We stan the group that transcends multiple generations

I'm going by actual kpop statements. They said 2020 officially starts 4th generation lmaoo you can't argue with Korea on this

For me why I think 2018 is 4th Gen is also because of IZ*ONE
Like they debut in 2018 and what? You gonna tell me IZ*ONE debut in 3rd Gen with 15 year old members, and those same members are gonna redebut in 4th Gen? Welp ok if that's what you think.
For me it makes sense for them 2018 onwards to be the early 4th Gen. Also you have multiple news articles calling IZ*ONE that debut in 2018 4th Gen so a few people on AKP isn't going to rewrite those articles
