Something weird about SM idols.....

  • Yes they have multiple hits and quality songs and perfect perfect idols.

But I don't seem to think with all the perfection , is they don't seem to be very approachable or relatable...… is it just me

  • Mmmm I know what you are trying to say, honestly I have to say that while the idols themselves can be very relatable and down to earth (like Mark), generally SM concepts, performances and music is very structured and even niche on its approach as it gives a more "manufactured" image. I feel like even for the casual K-Pop fan, specially on the west, SM songs and idols can be intimidating to get into as they can come off as "superficial/manufactured/weird". Most people who get into Kpop want to support charismatic yet approachable and relatable idols with catchy songs about popular themes and direct lyrics. And I guess SM idols often come off as more the "idols with weird songs and lyrics dancing nonstop, with an unapproachable image and aiming for perfection, which can be considered boring". SM groups always aim for the "clean/complete song, performance and MV" on a comeback in an era where people relate to imperfection and randomness and just want catchy songs and expensive MVs they can vibe with and sing along to, while thinking about the relatable/know what they are talking about lyrics, and SM goes against that trend on a sense.

  • Interesting.

It's a criticism SM groups have always received, something that comes to mind is even the marketing/image of their groups when compared to other companies:

Twice: The cute, innocent girls with catchy and fun songs, lyrics and melodies.

BP: Badass, girls crush with bangers with catchy and sometimes dumb lyrics. Teens want to be like them.

    RV: They have 2 concepts:

The red for pop songs that often get weird instrumentals and unique beats, somehow a little creepy. Here goes songs so different like Happiness, Ice Crean Cake, Dumb Dumb or Zimzalabim.

The Velvet for their more jazzy R&B/Ballad side (which Ig is boring for most casual K-Pop fans) and with also unusual songs like Really Bad Boy.

Guess which group is the least approachable for most people.

Also for the relatable and easy to understand lyrics think about how much SM doesn't give 2 sh*ts about it with NCT and Aespa title tracks lyrics now with the whole Kwangya, Black Mamba, dreams, flat, etc, etc.

  • I disagree, but I watch a lot of content that isn't just interview and certain variety.

SHINee, in my eyes is super relatable to me as I've watched all content from 08 to now. A bunch of weeb dorks and kibum.

That being said. I'm sure every idol is a bit different in person than what we can see.

  • I don’t know if they are as I’ve never met them in person nor likely to. I do feel that sometimes idols put on a facade that’s not really them, but who cares if they’ve got some great vocals.

  • I dont think so

i personally feel that they are some of the idols the most relatable

You can often see them talk about porn, how they used to fight, or talking about their most useless hobbies like taeyong collection of spongebob figurine etc....

i personnally more have this unapprochable image for JYP idols and YG idols

because JYP try to give to his idol a too clean image that at the end for me it look way to fake

and YG give to his idol an image of strong person unapprochable so it's hard to find them relatable
