The Boys by Girls Generation is the only girlgroup album to ever top Gaon yearly chart

and it's not likely to change given the huge growth in sales across the board. BP has the best chance but BTS are an unbreakbale wall and SVT and NCT had an album sell more then them last year and they are looking to sell even more this year.

As has been said many times, SNSD weren't just the popular gg of their time, they were beyond just another idol group. Being a gg but toe to toe with bgs and beating them all at their own strengths like album sales, touring, fan bases etc including getting a disk daesang at GDA as the only gg ever really shows how dominat SNSD were.

Why is it not fair? You can still compare bgs to ggs regardless of era because it's still the same story - on the whole bgs destroy ggs in album sales no matter the time period. Then only difference is the exact numbers but the overall correlation is still the same.

Back in 2g almost any bg could sell 100k easily and some mid tier could go 200k - 300k and the very top could hit 400k. Meanwhile almost all ggs were considered very successful if they hit 50k. Yes 50k was top end of the scale for 99% of ggs. Compare a low tier bg getting 100k to a top gg getting 50k and that's a 2:1 difference. Swap in mid to top tier bgs instead and the difference can be can be like 3:1, 5:1 or 8:1. Bgs crush ggs. It's not too dismiliar to what's happening now where bgs can sell millions but ggs can make half or a quarter or less. Like I said, same story but just with different numbers

IIRC only 3 ggs could reach 100k that being SNSD, 2ne1 and Fx (and Kara too as I've been informed) which already is a huge achievement and only SNSD could go further and match bgs which is a massive feat. The fact they actually became the best selling group outright including a million seller was unheard of and speaks volumes how mega popular dominant they were.

It is tho? Even if bts is out of question, seventeen and nct (and Baekhyun) would sell more than any girlgroups and these two groups are less bigger (at least based on hit songs) than Bigbang, TVXQ, super junior were during SNSD days, and the girls still won over them

SNSD is that group!
