Who is it? Seventeen has great physical sales but blackpink has way bigger digital success. I don't think svt has any streaming certifications. Itzy also does better than them in digitals i guess. So r physical sellers bigger or the ones with better chart performance? Both sides r lacking in one area. Bts and Twice r strong in both physicals and digitals.
Who are the most popular 3rd gen kpop groups in japan after bts and twice actually? (pls don't say niziu, they aren't kpop)

Lol, there was a topic about it a few hours ago, so that might be the reason
The consensus was that BP wat the second biggest GG, not sure about BG though...
-
-
NiziU (two massive songs in Step and a Step and Make You Happy, first physical single sold over 400k)
SVT (they can sell physicals really well)
ITZY (have surprisingly good digitals with minimal to no promotions)
IZ*ONE (Fandom, but it's enough to keep them afloat there)
BP or TXT
would be the next 5 I think

There's a whole NiziU, BP is not 2nd.

Oh, yeah, I guess it depends if we consider NiziU kpop or not.

Out of the active groups, Seventeen definitely closes top 3. Japanese market is more about Physical sales & touring and I guess Seventeen has that covered. Charting is a good metric for other markets but not Japan. Why? Because of the structure of the market.
Why else do you think groups are putting out special content for japanese market?
-
Also, yes. Especially without fansigns and handshake events. And they're a foreign group. Selling that much is incredible.
Getting any sort of certification from RIAJ is a big deal for a foreign act.
-
I'll add it to the title.
Well they do have a large fandom that's proven thru their physicals. But yes that's impressive.
-
It's about 3rd gen. I'll add it to title

People underestimate bp's power in jpn.

Special content as in? Isn't japan warming up to streaming these days?

These r nice inflation techniques pre covid.

People underestimate bp's power in jpn.
Ppl underestimate Blackpink's touring more imo. They only had 1 official tour and 1 online concert but already is the 3rd gen gg with the most revenue and most attendance.
Blackpink has never promoted in Jpn, don't think they will ever do there. I don't think their fandom presence is that high there and I think for markets like China and Japan digital and physical sales is understandably rated higher so I think SVT is 3rd.
Their charting, streaming, and touring is very good in Japan tho for a market that they have never promoted in
-
YG doesn't care about japan beyond touring. So bp will never release original jpn singles or albums.China in general is a digital market isn't it? Cbars buys tons of albums.
-
that's fair imo, just correcting the dome tour thing.

China is a physical and downloads market. Streaming is non existent there. Just look at HYLT streaming vs download numbers lol, that ratio can't be found in other countries

Sales wise on Oricon Pentagon, Dreamcatcher, Ikon, and Red Velvet trade spots back and forth with BTS and Twice quite often when their labels actually let them make Japanese releases.
Fandom wise, Seventeen, Dreamcatcher, and Ikon have the biggest Japan fanbases after BTS and Twice

Do u know if local stars sell alot of physicals? The exo chinese member sold alot of album copies in china but it was all downloads i guess. Agree that downloads r huge in china. Very huge actually.

Special content as in songs and albums recorded in japanese. We don't see that for any other market.
Japanese albums are priced more than korean albums. That's why companies are going for those japanese sales.
Yeah Japan is also slowly giving in to streaming era. But I think the transition will take more time than other countries.

I think sales wise seventeen is bigger than all except bts. I think now svt sells more than twice or around that range.
Good to know dreamcatcher is doing well in japan. Their sound seems like somthing that can vibe with japanese audience well.

Not really. Or they all will make it to the most sold albums each year with the population in China. Kpop acts have fans that are more inclined to buy physical albums that's why grps like EXO and Bp can sell so much physicals there when they have bigger fandom there.
The difference is that Chinese Gp don't really stream, some of them still just download songs they like. Hence the downloads. That kind of mentality is exclusive to China

Funny thing is they vibe better in Japan.
Dreamcatcher tends to sell better in Japan than Korea because of the rock scene there, I really love the fact that they have seemed to balance Japan activities well with their Korean. Their concerts sell out in minutes consistently there, I would not be shocked if at somepoint HappyFace lets them head over there for a year or two like BoA, Kara and AOA did when their fanbase was bigger there as they had so many unique collaborations in Japan. Dreamcatcher has had numerous video game and convivence store promos in Japan since the Chase Me era and some of their first live performances were in malls in the heart of Shibuya and Osaka. Many stores in Japan have entire shelves dedicated to the group in the heart of Akihabara and they are not even sponsored by HappyFace, stores request for materials to put them up. They have an hardcore fanbase there much like BoA did in the early 2000s. I hope their company continues to capitalize on it.

I understand your mild discretion here.
However, I am glad to answer questions about Japanese charts and fandoms whenever though as that is mainly where my heart resides. (Still waiting for all the J-Pop badges to be back ). I enjoy people asking about the Japanese music a lot lately, as that is where my music love started.

About Japan not really. U won't find that many threads about Japanese rankings. There was another one today tho.
