Let's talk Visuals of in your fav Groups

It's true that some idols designated as visuals aren't particularly talented, but many people are too quick to write off visuals in general, even going as far as denying whatever talent they do have merely due to holding a largely meaningless title. I can also think of several cases where the visuals even ended up being the most improved members of their groups over time, but people still treat them as if they're in the group solely for their looks. Even if that was true at debut, it needn't remain true.

Tbh we have a lot of idols that aren't that good at singing, but visuals get way more criticism bc even though they may lack in the talent department they still "hit big" while the "more talented" ones doesn't. But it's not exactly the idols fault, companies do push more the visual members.

Yoona may be a good dancer, but she wasn't even close talent wise to the better singers in the group. Even though idols may be good at others things, their first priority should be vocals or rap, if they are just average in those department it makes them the easiest target.

Overall there isn't a single group where the visual is the most talented, but there are plenty of cases where the visual is the most popular so....

I always break it down to performance talent and the non performance talents

there's rarely any idol that is talentless at all - there might be idols that are weaker in some areas than others

and that's no different from visuals - there might be some that are weaker in some areas and stronger in others...

is the OP's question solely in relation to the performance aspect of talent

I've never liked the concept of "visual" in K-pop. It's dehumanizing. Kpop fans are so shallow

Well it's not like any of them actually stand out in any particular area of expertise, but she's the best they have as far as singing goes, hence her main vocalist title.

Imo Minnie is the better vocalist and talent wise Soyeon is the most talented one by far. Her rap is top tier even though her voice sometimes sound annoying.

Soyeon is a terrible lyricist, which automatically disqualifies her from being a good rapper, even if you can actually stand her grating voice.

Karina is neither a standout dancer nor an average dancer.

Main vocalist of APINK and a well-rounded dancer.

That's on you, but their career being so big is thanks to Soyeon who produced their songs.

She gets the work done and managed idle to become one of the top groups of the 4th gen despite not being from a big4 company.

Siwon is the official visual, Kyuhyun wasn't even in the convo when they were at their peak.

People should start reading and understanding what I'm saying. OFFICIAL visuals pushed by the company, not just beautiful members.

Interesting, but I think kpop companies moved away from official titles tbh. I think it started with 4th gen but groups are now positionless, so it's somewhat subjective about roles. We can obviously point out who are main vocalist and main dancers but companies don't have the official positions anymore. I guess visuals are subjective, but I guess for the visual it will be the member that gets discussed the most. I guess we can say who the companies mediaplay as the visual even though there's no official role these days.

I disagree about Yeji, Gawon, and Hanni not being the most talented in their respective group

It's not that companies stopped, it's just that talent wise k-pop took a beating like... Majority are average so no outstanding talent like in illit case for example or some bgs. But you'll always know who are the official visuals, I love NingNing, she is the best in Aespa and imo the visual, but to the company it was always all about Karina, we know and see...

And you'll accept my opinion as your own!

Visuals have a different main job way beyond singing and dancing. They're the advertisment. One good fancam, one viral moment and people start searching for the group.

Yuna, idek. She's not really standout in anything. Lia is ITZY's best vocalist but a weak rapper & dancer and Chaeryoung is a good dancer, average singer. Yeji remains the most rounded member.

If we’re talking about official visuals, I don’t think their main reason for being in the group is their talent, even if they are talented. Of course, it wouldn’t be fair to say they’re completely untalented, but generally speaking, they’re not among the most skilled members in the group. I think this is a bit of an exaggerated issue. In my opinion, no one in kpop groups is completely talentless.

And I thought we were talking about EXID Hanni and also Minji is the official visual so again, I'm talking about official visuals.

I blame kpop fans who buy this concept. Of course, the companies are primarily to blame, but if the fans didn't buy this with such enthusiasm, then i think this wouldn't be a thing anymore.

Also i blame the fans directly because they have the power to change this, but they dont care. Companies won't do shit if it's not for money.

You could say the same thing about Kpop in general, and all its bad business practices, including the poor treatment of idols, that fans enable through their consumerism. But I don't think anyone's ready for that discussion.

No, "visuals" are not talentless. It's a stereotype. In most cases, the idol becomes a visual additionally, not instead of talent. Many of them are really strong in dancing, vocals, rap or acting, it's just that the appearance is the first to catch the eye, and people devalue the rest.Those you gave are just a good example: Yoona, Krystal, Suzy, Karina have proven their level both in groups and outside of them.
