why is Jennie solo career more successful than Lisa in your opinion
-
-
-
Yeah, idk what happened with Lisa's album.
Her main fanbase has never been in SK, which is where Jennie reigns supreme, but her Lalisa numbers were way better than her Alter Ego numbers.
Why, I don't know. Though I heard she lost quite a few Chinese fans. Maybe that's where things went side ways for her cause I don't think Jennie out sold her by that much in the US.

Successful in regards to which career aspect?

I don’t think it’s less or more successful. They just appeal to different people and that’s alright.
-
I think she was clearly concept fishing. No other reason to make five alter egos for your first album.

smth was fishy with Lisa's american label let's be for real. it wasn't normal the way her streams behaved on spotify specially.
but most importantly I also think that the art direction and concepts could have been much better. Less scattered and chaotic.
And to add, the album felt very repetitive lyric vise. So many of her songs were about money flexing and it got very redundant at some point.
It felt like she was looking for a title track about money and many songs were given to her, she liked them all and just decided to put them all on the album.
And I felt like her personality wasn't showed well.
The album had many bangers tho.

People are mentioning the concept, but when has concept stopped fans from buying the album?
I doubt that Lisa went from selling 700k to like 200k-300k simply because her fans didn't like the concept.
Jisoo and Jennie's fanbase showed up for them in a major way. Lisa's fans, not so much. And, I don't think it was because of her concept.

IMO this shows that kpop sales are fake and how other labels are not interested in pushing the same way to get sales the way Kpop companies do.

The alter egos were a miss and it wasn't the right way to introduce herself to a new market. It may have been an interesting idea, but it was poor execution.
Songs itself weren't bad and I liked the direction she went with new woman and born again, but FUTW was the wrong title track. Album content-wise she needed more depth and lyrics and content felt dated. I don't think people wanted superficial lyrics and it didn't really show much evolution from her YG persona. I think people wanted more relatable songs and it feels like we only had that with "Dreams". I don't think the album was awful like many seem to say, but as a fan I wanted something with more depth. Hopefully she improves the lyrics and content for her comeback. I think there's potential but her debut lacked direction.
For her comeback she needs to consider songs that can showcase her performance. I think people want to see Lisa perform songs with higher energy that can showcase her dancing skills. People were expecting her to have killer choreography like her Lilifilms but we didn't get that. Also, I think she should dabble a bit into EDM because I think it could be a good fit for her.
Jennie solo debut was just flat out better imo. I think she created better hits and was able to make most of her songs trend on tiktok/ig. I don't think any of the Lisa songs went viral on TikTok. A major thing with Jennie she performs strong in Korea and I guess Lisa doesn't. However, LaLisa did very good numbers there but she may have lost her Chinese fans due to Crazy Horse. I think if we're looking at the US market I am unsure if Jennie did that much better and it feels about even. I don't think they gained many new fans from their solos but it's a promising start

Lisa has barely korean distribution, the Hanteo figures doesn’t figure her total sales not even Circle reported global sales. Like she wasn’t pulling lalisa’s numbers but it’s clear she didn’t only sell 200k.
Anyway alter ego is better than I expected I knew lisa would just put a bunch of playlists into one album so I’m not surprised I actually enjoy the album.
To answer to the question, Lisa is too surface level and it shows in her interviews, really basic answers and not too much depth, she does whatever she likes and doesn’t grasp the idea that the audience will not be into it.
I mean she said the alter ego idea came up was because her team suggested it and she said yes and put some wigs like girl…

I mean, if I had the actual numbers, I would list them.
But the only numbers I saw was 170k for Hanteo and like 30k for Billboard. Me saying 200k-300k was me being generous.
I'm working with the information I have available.

I mean Okay? but she had limited Korean distributions, so it explains why she has lower sales.

Did we forget Jennie was that girl?
But honestly, i’m just not excited for Lisa. I’m loved New Woman, but the other singles she released were lackluster. Then you listen to Jennie’s album and it’s well-rounded AND she choose a bi*ch track as her title which can be risky.
I think she or her agency knew the IT girl brand and executed it flawlessly.
Lisa tried to be everything, when she’s not. Plus i saw so many negative comments about Lisa’ album on social media, and while i only saw negatives about Jennie performing, but no one trashed her album.
I’ll use Doja Cat as an example, she talks about how she dislikes her early music, but she still gave fans what sells (pop music), then waited to be more artistic once she was established.

Jennie has bigger kpop/Korean fandom. Both of her leads singles targeted at Korean market went viral for it's choreo (mantra and Like Jennie). Lisa abandoned Kpop completely, and she was already not much famous in Sk. Even her previous hit money wasn't big in SK.
-
It's telling that Lloud and RCA still haven't released sales figures for her album.

To be honest, I think it's a little more nuanced than just "Jennie has better music."
Lisa is a dancer FIRST (and an amazing one, at that), so I think people were expecting her sound to be more dance-focused than bubblegum pop. She went the route that I think people expected Jennie to take. It's not a bad thing but it is polarizing. People were expecting dance music and strong choreography from Lisa but I think we were surprised to see more of her softer side and even her "harder" songs like FUTW and RockStar aren't really dance songs.
Jennie, on the other hand, is more of a chameleon. She has more of an "untouchable" energy, which also allows her to not be stuck in one lane and her persona alone makes her seem more of a celebrity. She could rap, or do pop, or do R&B. She has more versatility.

I don't agree.
The solo stans and ot3 stans may attack each other and the members but blinks have been loyal to all 4.
I know it.
True blinks will always support her.
Anyhow,
There are some major points to be considered:
1. It seemed to many that Lisa wasn't sure what she was doing with the album... So many alter egos and it was all just confusing. Like why 5?? Weren't 2 or 3 enough??
2. And it's true.. that while listening to her interviews, she didnt seem to have much depth in her...
Even the one with Daesung. This can turn some casual fans away unfortunately.
3. The Crazy Horse performance made her lose many young fans she originally had.
There were so many young fans crying everywhere when she did it. Have they moved on since then??
And the Chinese media banned her.
4. Plus, her image with new western audience has been pretty confusing.
Sometimes she speaks very cutely, nearly "aegyo", but then she behaves like a bad bitch and all mature in her mvs.
They can't understand who she really is???
They can't relate to her.
So these are real concerns that affected her career a bit negatively.

I'm surprised by these numbers. I thought she had most fans globally and by quite some bit. Jennie second.
Seems I was wrong.
Didn't think the Crazy Horse thing would affect her popularity this much, but I didn't think about how the strongest part of her fandom was always in more conservative countries in Asia. I do agree what essence-of-love says at the end of their post. For Western audiences the mixture of aegyo and badass can be confusing and perhaps also offputting.
Anyway, I hope she does better with her next album. She is one of my favorite female idols.

She's more talented where it counts

True.
If it had been dance music that you can easily dance to, I would have been all over that.

Yeah. I think she's the most followed on IG.
But, maybe she just has more casual followers while Jennie has a bigger fanbase. Which hasn't always been the case.
Previously, they seemed even. Even if Jennie was more popular in SK.
