Yes! Found a bunch of videos of them! I remember Vicky was being hyped up as the next big idol from YG!

And BM had a totally different lineup! I was very shocked when none of the girls debuted it felt like YG decided to skip 4th gen and debut younger for 5th

I completely forgot Ahyeon wasn’t even there at debut/Batter up! That’s another reason people boycotted BM at the start!

My theory is she left and YG begged her to come back when people said they would stop supporting BM I don’t think YG did that for additional hype/planned lol

YG did wait too long to debut them. Now he has them on a world tour to try to recoup all the money they used in YT ads and playlisting to pump up their views.

Also, YG hasn't produced a good song since before COVID.

I like bbymon though, they have high potential just need a better overall vision and sound. i think 4th gen spoiled many fans into thinking rookie groups should be topping charts in their first couple of years.

Unlike the two groups mentioned, babymonster did not chart due to being a YG group. That branding is already dead in korea. Sheesh did not even chart at the beginning, it started charting a week later after their music show performances. In conclusion, it was due to their talents that they started getting recognition and not because of yg branding.

It's the songs. The reception of The Chase, Batter Up and I do me have been very different. I can't talk about Korea but among international Kpop fans, Batter Up have mostly been received poorly, some even compared it to O.O whereas I do me is the polarizing song but with loud supporters. The Chase as be deemed the "not bad but underwhelming" song. SM and Starship branding power seem stronger than YG's right now but as soon as Baemon began to come back with more loved songs, their charting positions got better.

The bop, blop or flop ratio on AKP for example is pretty clear.

Batter Up is a flop kchart wise because YG don't even care to promote it. No mushow no promotion nothing. They think they was still the big dog but reality Isnt since Burning sun scandal 2019.

YG brand is move different back then when YG act can drop a song without promo and straight debut on top100 melon. BP/winner/ikon for example.

Its a miracle that baemon can charting well on kchart with a nonpublic song like sheesh/drip, their talents alone carries themself until now.

at the end of the day it only takes one song to make it big, I feel very positive about BaeMon this year, lets wait and see

Drip peaked around 2.3M weekly YT in SK (#7), and has been charting top 20 since early November when it released (19 weeks of top 20). KiiKii and H2H also peaked 2.3M-2.4M on YT SK, while Cherish peaked at 1.7M. I think it's clear BM has worked their ass off out of the hole YG put them in and are now on even footing with H2H/KiiKii. I consider BM/H2H/KK as the leaders of 5th gen, and have overtaken ILLIT.

That said, 2.3M~ is pretty weak overall. NewJeans and IVE debut was 5M~, Le Serrafim was 3.8M. BP solos are 6M, Peak NJZ/aespa is 10M, G-Dragon is 12M, Blackpink is 14M.

I think the main issue with 5th gen is they are way too young. Their image and sound caters to much younger fans than what we saw in 4th gen. If you look at who is topping charts right now with 6M-10M views - it's G-Dragon, Rose, Jennie, aespa, NJZ, IVE - ones who can capture a large range of fans. This is one issue I think 5th gen is going to run into - they don't have the cross-generation appeal that the ones at the top of Korea have. You need to break into the 20-40 crowd for a chance at PAKs.

Are we erasing the fact that ULs are low as hell, one can chart a song on daily 100 with 50K uls, or does this argument only apply for bgs.

YG brand is outdated now and tbh what sets Babymonster apart musically from Blackpink? It just sets them up for failure because they will never be able to reach the heights that Blackpink reached.
