Tide has turned for 4th Gen GGs?

  • Just an observation. Looking at latest spotify streaming (15 Jan 25)

2022-2023 both GIDLE and IVE pulled great spotify streams (Tomboy, Nxde, Queencard, Eleven, Love Dive, After Like, I Am). Now their numbers are much weaker and see no trend of recovery. What happened?

    Gidle last two releases:

    - Wife - 87k (total 84mil)

    - Super Lady - 105k (total 90.6mil)

    - Fate - 88k (total 55mil)

    - Klaxon - 98k (total 41mil)

    Highest daily - Queencard 230k (347 mil)

    IVE

    - Heya - 107k (total 73.8mil)

    - accendio - 65k (total 38.5mil)

    - *Supernova Love - 163k (total 20mil)

    Highest daily - I AM - 181k daily (319 mil)

The other three 4th gen GGs somehow managed to keep their streaming power. NJ newer songs have weaker performance than their previous amid the bad circumstances against them. But NJ still have super strong streams for their whole discography.

    Lesserafim

    - easy - 346k (total 230 mil

    - smart - 434k (total 280mil)

    - crazy - 1.3mil (total 179mil)

    - 1800-hot-n-fun - 249k (total 49.8mil)

    Highest daily - Crazy

    Newjeans

    - how sweet - 393k (total 165mil)

    - Bubble Gum - 186k (total 86 mil)

    - Supernatural - 362k (total 123mil)

    - Right Now - 130k (total 47 mil)

    Highest daily - Ditto 490k

    Aespa

    - supernova - 526k (total 248mil)

    - armageddon - 426k (total 193mil)

    - whiplash - 1.1mil (total 132 mil)

    -*Up - 526k (total 77mil)

    Highest daily - whiplash

    Drama - 466k daily (total 327mil)

    Black mamba - 119k daily (total 267mil)

Surprised that Lesserafim still having very strong stream for Crazy depsite it flopped in Korea.

I'm also very surprised at aespa's streaming numbers. Years ago AKPs were making fun of aespa's spotify numbers but yet today, they have one of the best streaming among the 4th gen? 2023 and 2024 really were a great year for them. Interesting how the tide somehow turned right?

  • Aespa is crazy strong internationally now.

Supernova is the best-performing 2024 k-pop song along with Magnetic. And I think because of this, Whiplash might be overlooked a little, but it is up there as well (2nd fastest kpop group song to reach 130m on Spotify, after Supernova), and it's still charting on Apple Music Global.

They were already growing and doing good with Drama, but Supernova-Whiplash skyrocketed their numbers and Drama now also has really strong longevity.

Aespa is becoming a powerhouse internationally now as well. Which is definitely quite satisfying in a way considering how much people loved to talk about them "only having appeal in SK".

  • Fate was never going to do big spotify numbers.

But it has much to do with playlisting and also halo effect of lead singles.

LSF have heavy playlisting (and discovery for their releases when they drop) which gives them much better streams of their singles, but it also means it gives a halo listening effect on the shuffle/queue to their other songs. I think one of their songs also had a small flurry of virality.

Aespa have also leant a bit more into the pay to play (playlisting/discovery), but not to the extent of hybe, but their use case is more simple - they have strong songs going well right now, and there's a halo effect.

Both Idle's and IVE's last releases were weak, particularly in west, and that diminishes their playlist count, but also just in general the halo effect from having songs on strong playlists or in global chart. You aren't as likely to either directly listen to IVE or Idle if you aren't listening to one of their songs to begin with, and/or have it on the queue as much or in the playlist as much.

Remains to be seen how their next songs do, but generally some of those numbers will actually rise once they drop a new song. Probably keep an eye on IVE's songs over the next few weeks to see if those numbers increase significantly.

TLDR - Yeah Idle and Ive last releases (Klaxon and Heya) weren't amazing on spotify, but it's also the lull of their cycle compared to Aespa, and Hybe have always been stronger on spotify and also quite significantly lean into it with the.. let's call them "tools" offered to labels by Spotify.

  • Don't think playlisting play major role in rather its auto discovery...same as youtube ads. 0n first day, LISA NEW woman had doable of Rockstar playlist yet both have similar stream.

what is auto discovery? like this smart shuffle?

Like when i activate smart shuffle i would expect more older 2nd/3rd gen songs due to my play history but i get lsfm/aespa/nj even if i dont have them in may play list or search history.

  • Ouch NJ numbers are like half that of aespa. What were u going off bout in other threads?

NewJeans are the most streamed girl group on Spotify and already have the best sales in 2025, despite no new releases since June 2024.

That's what I'm going off about. Put any other girl group in their situation, and their numbers wouldn't even be half as good.
