does it ever bother you not being able to sing along with your faves?

  • It rarely bothers me but there are times where im just like "dam I wish I knew Korean" so I could actually sing the song instead of mumbling gibberish lol.

Idk Korean AT ALL so even just being able to repeat a word is difficult. Maybe learning some basics of the language would help but I aint got time for all that

  • You don't have to learn the language to be able to sing along.

Just learn the lyrics. That's what I do, at least.

For me, I wanted to learn Seventeen's Pretty U right? I went to youtube, found a romanized lyric video and practiced the song for like 30 minutes and when I had the lyrics and pronounciations down, I went through it all over again and when you keep doing this for diff songs then eventually you'll get the hang of it.

I learnt Taeyeon's INVU recently in like 5 minutes.

  • Lesserafim fans don't need to worry about these things i guess

Interesting, the thing is I have tried this. I can very easily do the same for a Japanese song but that's because I at least know the phonetics of the language. And from watching 100s of subtitled anime. I don't actually know what they are saying, but I can sing along. Same with Spanish since I learned that throughout grade school.

I struggle to do the same with Korean which is why I mentioned at least learning some basics, maybe I'm just not trying hard enough lol.

  • Thinking about how there are some foreign language songs that I like, but whenever I try to sing those songs, I end up mumbling, singing gibberish or something.

But of course, learning the lyrics makes it easier.

Reminds me of when I would record myself singing some kpop song or something and would look at the lyrics while singing.

Despite the fact that there is one song in my native language that I have a problem singing the chorus of for some reason.

    Ohh, I see.

I'd say listen to a few songs and note some common words across all of them. That could help..I think.

I have the same problem with Korean for some reason. There are a few songs that are easy for me to imitate, but often I'm lost. I guess maybe the pace is too fast then and I can't distinguish the words without knowing some phonetics.

I learned the alphabet some time ago and it helps identifying groups, song names and idol names.

I'd like to get more into it, because I do think it's a beautiful language.

  • I do sing along to them, just as I sing along to songs in other foreign languages too. I naturally mimic sounds and I pick up phonetics easily, which can mask my actual ability in the language. I sound way more fluent than I am. It's also easier to mimic while signing a set song, than actually conversing which requires more than surface knowledge.

That said, I actually learned some Korean along the way too, though far less than my ability to reproduce "sounds" that sound like the lyrics.

  • yes! id really like to learn korean just for singing kpop! ive been considering it for a long time, but easier said then done loel

i usually can pick up on some parts, but during a rap or something, no way i can sing that

  • First time I sang a song in Korean was in 2017 from Kdrama OST! At that time I didn’t know a thing about Korean, but I liked a lot of osts from the kdrama that I watched, and I didn’t know that lyric videos or texts existed! So I played the song and just wrote what I heard on notebook, and in 20 minutes I got handwritten lyrics 😅! Then I played osts on repeat and sang along then I learned those osts entirely! Then I learned to read and write Korean letters myself, and my pronunciation became nearly native, tho I don’t know Korean lol😅

Now I don’t even look up to lyrics, I just play the song several times and my brain picks up most of the words
