4th generation K-pop is unlistenable

  • K-pop’s peak quality wise was definitely 2009-2017/18

Anything after that was the slow downhill. I’m sorry but is 4th gen music a joke?

Every group sounds the same and almost all the ggs now are leeching on the girl crush concept and are trying to be ‘experimental’ with the weirdest random beats and it sounds so westernized

4th gen will never have their ‘Gee’, ‘Growl’, ‘Cheer Up’, ‘Rough’ type of GP relevance

I miss when there were a different variety of groups that actually sounded distinct and had different concepts. Now it’s all just the same.

  • Tbh 4th gen gg have some really good songs but they're very forgettable. I'll listen to them for a week and then get tired of them.

4th gen will never have their ‘Gee’, ‘Growl’, ‘Cheer Up’, ‘Rough’ type of GP relevance

That's true. The closest we got to this is Wannabe, Next level, Cupid and Hype boy.

  • There are some groups that are unfortunately sorely missed, like f(x) and Gfriend.

But thanks to the fourth generation, K-Pop has become more diverse. Maybe there are too many releases, so that it sometimes seems overloaded.

We also have the 3rd generation Dreamcatcher, who have played a major role in the massive increase in popularity of harder rock music in K-Pop. And I like listening to rock and metal.

For me personally, the 4th generation also has the best boy groups like Stray Kids and ATEEZ.

  • as someone who ults a 2nd gen group and listens to everything under the sun

    you're wrong.

You probably listen to the wrong groups. Expand your horizons.

    Yep all bops

  • I would say it have been more of a trend going on during the years going from the fun, poppy and catchy type of kpop during the 2nd generation to the more main stream a bit more mature and boring kind of music of today. It's of cource a generalisation, but at average the kpop was a bit more fun during the 2nd generation. That don't mean there is good songs today, but just feeling they are a bit fewer of them.

  • Lot of great 2nd gen tunes for sure like Bang Bang Bang, Mirotic, Fiction, Tonight, Ugly, The Boyz, Rum Pum Pum, So Hot (although some of these are better as covers performed by Izone, Twice, etc).

But nobody but a clown would consider 4th gen to be unlistenable. I could list 50 fourth gen songs that rate a 10 or 11 out of 10. Can't come anywhere near that with 2nd or even 3rd gen tbh (which was carried solely by Twice, BP and Oh My Girl).
