Why do we hate success?

Kpop fans are like crabs in a bucket, always pulling each other down.

The real competition on a global scale is not other Kpop groups as much as Western, particularly American artists that are supported by their enormous music industry. The one that loves to heavily plug their artists abroad but gatekeep at home.

If Kpop fans would all help each other stream even a little bit, there could be 10 top groups that can compete on the global scale. But they fight and hate each other and get nowhere near where they could be.

It's K-pop, far wars are like the natural chain reaction within the competitive food market. The generation also learned how to K-pop from their antecedent.

The world is full of awful people. Thats it.

I'll play devil's advocate and comment specifically as it relates to kpop

kpop is not a zero sum game but for certain achievements and successes how well you do compared to your peers is relevant

in school one saying one scored 90 means nothing if the average in the class was 95

similarly one scoring 70 might seem low until one mentions 60 was the average

how well one does in absolute terms means nothing if one doesn't have something to compare it to...whether it's one's peers or previous successes etc etc

and therefore SOME fans will consider other group's successes as detrimental to their own favs successes since if other groups succeed there is less chance or it's harder for one's own group to succeed...

Because people use the group's success as a crutch for their own shortcomings but also a way to live vicariously through the idols ("If I support this group and they become successful, I feel accomplished as well"). So seeing other groups rising is seen as a threat to your fave's spot in the industry hierarchy.

Mostly because a lot of stans like to use their faves' success to insult and talk shit about other groups and their fandoms
