When does the hardwork stops and the overworking starts?

  • Just yesterday, TXT's Taehyun was saying he had a cold and at one point he had a 39°C fever but was in the midst of filming stuff and preparing for the tour so it made him very sad, he said he felt very sad and depressed about not being able to sing (because he loves that so dearly) and smile enough for the content. Before that a moa talked about them getting a break and he answered something like "please company look at that". At the concerts which began not that long after the closing of their 2nd tour, they sometimes look super exhausted (not just the exhausted by the performance) and during the ments, some members kneeled down and looked like they'd faint. Kai in a video said cutely and jokingly that he fainted and woke up right away:

What do you think? I know as fans we can overinterpret things BUT idols do work a lot and normally rarely complains or talk about it so when it's the case it does question me. I guess you could pull an example and say "it's ok there's worse elsewhere" but at which point should we get concerned for them as human beings with a health to take care of?

Bighit rarely put members on break (not vacation), the only ones I remember for TXT was when YJ had issues with their back and when they had pink eye in 2019. More recently beomgyu did not do some interviews in the US but they've been performing mostly as 5 under all circumstances.

  • I remember exo members were so overworked exols were sending petitions to SM to let them rest.

I think that hardwork stops when health and sleep schedule are interfered. With the way Hybe is going it seems like their boy groups will " get rest" only when they enlist.

yeah seems like it too. Bangtan got proper vacations only a certain amount of years after but beyond that, it's about handling the schedules well and not cramming interviews, online and tv contents, comebacks and tours one after the other or at the same time which is something Hybe does not seem to comprehend.

It's sad that they will wait for idols to burn out and be injured (which is something I do not wish) before they decide to halt activities.

  • i'm pretty sure all idols who are hot and trendy are always overworked

for them being overworked is kinda a good thing since it means you're doing well

i wished it wasn't the case but it's just reality

my idols are performing 14 stages this month since it's uni festival season

Like they were so overworked that BTS first vacation since debut was in 2019.

  • ultimately I think one must remember that kpop idols are the epitome of a commission based gig

you only make so much money based on how much you bring in and unfortunately that has a tendency to mean certain idols overwork themselves or companies forcing the idols to work more and thus earn more money...

obviously idols known their own situation the best and should be able to take breaks and recover but is it them who is doing the overworking or are the companies forcing them or coercing them into working more...that is something that we will never know

From what was said in first post it seems like some of txt members also want to take a break... I also think few free days won't hurt anyone, especially if they are part of top group and company.

my comments were general and not specific to TXT per se...

that's also very relevant to the discussion right? since TXT is a top group under a big4 company

think about all those nugus and lesser known groups who don't have such a luxury and still get paid a pittance since they can't bring home the bacon so to speak

Yeah but I also don't think nugu groups are the topic here and I also don't think that most of them have enough schedules to be overworked... their fatigue comes from something else. :(

Hopefully, they will be able to get some rest for a few days but since they are currently the only artist in their company who is active, BigHit will be sending them on tours and making them more release albums...

I think bts members will be back soon so perhaps then BH can give them some time off.

~ Retired exol, don't ask me about that group. ~

  • About being overworked. Some years ago a nurse from a hospital literally spilled the tea on how often and for what cases she was seeing everyone of SEVENTEEN and she said "There are at least one or two of the group in our hospital every week. Sometimes they almost collaps in the waiting room, other times they come here complaining about a hurting foot. This happens so often and at this point I don't know who of the members comes the often anymore since it feels like as if I would see everyone at least once a month. "

And fans had been very concerned for ages about them, especially since they often just go back to training instead of taking rest.

When ATEEZ's Mingi was sick, he was allowed to take 10 months off and they also wanted that Jongho would take enough rest when he was sick, but in Jongho's case, when he injured his foot 3 times in a year and had to get foot surgery in the year after, he always wanted to be with his group, even if he was just sitting on a chair. He got time to rest when his foot got surgery, but boy was back like only 3 months later and is now dancing as if nothing ever happend. But from a live stream, I know how overworked they can be. They said that Hongjoong was working so much, that he often dosn't even comes back home and that this would also be the reason why he has no own bedroom in their apartment. But it's quit sad since they also revealed that since he practicaly lives in the studio, he would sleep on the sofa every night.

Not a Korean group, but the leader of the Japanese group JO1 once said how much they would be training every day and its crazy. He said they go to the company and start to work at 9am and work till 10pm. If they produce a new CD or prepair for a concert he said they would often work till around 1am and he added on top that he was practicaly overworking himself since he spends 1 or 2 hours more time training every day since he said he wants to be able to keep up to his group cause he was the only member who never danced before joining the group.

I think groups like my ulti group A.C.E have it a bit better. Their CEO is not overworking them and gives them a lot free time. They even get so much free time that their leader said some years ago he can often travel to his parents and spend 3 day with them on the weekend and that he would be free on almost all weekends and even often in the afternoon. Many groups don't have that

    A.C.E | ATEEZ | DRIPPIN| MCND | NU'EST | ONF | SF9 | Stray Kids | TFN

  • Yeah I heard that txt and enhypen are constantly on tours...must be exhausting especially the tail end of the tour

the thing is it's only the beginning of this one, which is why moas are worried. Also tours aren't too bad (it's what they, as most idols, prefer) if not planned too close to one another and if they don't fill the rest of the time with schedules. All of it imo is what is putting a strain on them.
