Depends on what you mean by "legacy act" but I voted yes for the following reasons :

- any group activity will have to be planned around their solo schedules

- and YG debuted a clear successor for those who want typical idol content

So even if they come back as a group pretty quickly, before it starts to feel like a "reunion tour", they are essentially at that stage of their careers where the group is a 2nd priority.

yes, they will focus on their solo careers. the contract renewal was a favor to YG so they could continue selling Funko Pops and NFTs.

i predict their next comeback will be a single ballad song with no promo and mv that they won't even shoot together, shortly before their contract expires

I say legacy acts are those that can no longer compete in sales and touring with newer groups.

SNSD doesn’t tour and their sales are not comparable to newer groups.

You can’t call a group with the best selling album and even now with highest monthly listeners on Spotify a legacy act.

Legacy act is just a kind term for groups that fall short to newer group after being on top because they can’t keep up with trends and their music is not actively being consumed at a great extent.

BP so far haven’t fallen into this category. The day they aren’t dominating in YouTube or Spotify and totally don’t tour any more and they don’t have any more comebacks and their comebacks start to just being “gifts for fans” with no charting that’s when they’ll be a legacy act.

I guess I deserve the credit for inspiring this thread with my comments, I humbly accept it.

And yes of course they are, now that blackpink members are not contractually obligated to reunite and interact some times they are not doing it, as expected, so there is nothing in schedule for them as a group. They are clearly a disbanded legacy act waiting for a reunion comeback and reunion tour for everyone except some delusional blinks, most blinks are moving into babymonster so sooner or later even them will give up.

That's because there are no "legacy acts" amongst Kpop girl groups, only functionally disbanded groups who might occasionally come together for a reunion, which is the actual direction Blackpink is headed. But use that term in any other context and you get a bunch of old farts who still tour well but nobody notices when they release new music. There are a few Kpop girl groups I could see becoming genuine legacy acts if they stick around long enough. The key difference is that if Blackpink aren't touring, they're likely not doing anything else as a group either.

If their career continues on the trajectory it is on now they are on their path to becoming a legacy act, they aren't currently one now. a legacy act--if i'm not mistaken by the definition--is a once chart-topping performer that hasn't released new music for many years that periodically performs their old hits. Blackpink hasn't been on hiatus that long--and they also aren't performing their old hits recently either.

yes, a legacy artist is a former chart topper than hasn't released new music in forever, but will tour because they still sell out concerts: i.e. Rolling Stones, Mariah Carey, etc. Blackpink hasn't released new music in almost 2 years and won't be releasing new music any time soon as they are busy with their solo careers. Blackpink won't be getting a comeback (if any) until after Jennie, Rose, and lisa (supposedly) release their solo abums. We don't know how many years they renewed with YG (although word on the street was 2 years).

Comeback isn’t what decides being a legacy act and it’s relevancy compared to newer groups is what I meant 👀

I don’t think they are less relevant than newer groups unlike say SNSD whom I can say are definitely less relevant currently than newer groups.
