4th gen boy group era already peaked/ended ?

  • I was about to do a thread on how it's now the 4.75 generation in Kpop but it was hard to pick the group that started this last stage of 4th gen.

Then i thought of BGs and the answer was clear.

Zerobase1 started the 4.75 generation. Then came Riize and later TWS.

And yes, all of them are threatening to end SKZ/TXT/Enhypen. I think this TWS song that went viral could end up to be the 4.75 generation's NEXT LEVEL.

And if July 2023 is the start of 4.75 gen, that makes Kiss of Life the first GG of this final wave. Then came Baemon and of course Illin who is threatening to end NJ on the GG side.

  • It never started for 4th gen boy groups in Korea. We had multiple hits from 3rd gen boy groups and TWS plot twist & Riize just debuted and they are already making rounds above 4th gen bgs.

The 4th gen bgs sell well internationally but... The ggs still exceed the bgs when it comes to streams in Korea & internationally.

  • I wonder what went wrong? Was it that BTS was so big that they overshadowed 4th gen bgs up until their hiatus?

Or could it be that the gp wasn’t clicking with the music? :pepe-shrug:

Talked about this sometime back in another thread. But the only factor that makes sense is 3rd Gen boy group hiatus especially BTS. They were siphoning a lot of fans and creating a large shadow over the bg landscape. After their hiatus, if you have noticed, boy groups have been doing much better compared to 2021 and earlier

  • NCT Dream and TXT comeback last week but all the attention went to Illit, KOF and BM.. do you think 4th gen boygroup era already ended ?

4th gen bg era never began for it to end. NCT barely counts because their fandom was already built in the 3rd gen, 4th gen bgs who were debuting and building their fanbases in the 4th gen were always flops on charts to the point that a debut on the top 500 on melon was considered an achievement lmfaodbewiuhof

I think so. The hiatus of 3rd gen bgs left a vacuum in Korea that 5th gen boy groups could pick up on.

But we’re well within BTS’s hiatus now and 4th gen boy groups haven’t been doing much better. Maybe they debuted at the wrong time and it’s too late for 4th gen boy groups to garner attention from the GP. :drinktears:

Even with the best charting 4th gen boy groups like TXT they never had a viral hit. They peaked at #19 which isn’t bad, but in comparison to 5th gen…

TWS AND RIIZE were able to make it into top 10 on the daily charts (#2 and #4) on their debut/first comeback.

This really puts thing in perspective :eyes: TXT was the only 4th gen bg to chart on melon daily charts…

    :exit-pepe:

  • I only use spotify so as far as I can see it txt, skz and enhypen have pretty good numbers :pepe-shrug:

and they are doing well on tours and endorsements as well.what’s forgotten by kpoppies is that music is only one aspect of the K-pop “product.” Music sales are typically not the biggest revenue drivers of entertainment companies. Instead, concerts, paid appearances, endorsements, merchandising and licensing deals make up the majority of revenue .

    Enhypen's numbers always suprise me

  • 4th gen bgs still sell more albums and their streaming numbers are better by far than 5th gen bgs, they've also been around long enough to be able to tour arenas worldwide

Here are the streams of their latest singles on spotify:

Riize 'love 119' - 27 million (released on the 5th of January)

Tws 'plot twist' - 22 million (released on the 22nd of January)

Txt 'Deja Vu' - 13 million (released on the 1st of April)

Though they are not 4th gen:

Nct Dream 'Smoothie' - 14 million (released on the 25th of March)

  • Everyone says that the songs differentiate the generations, but all the newer-debuted groups are more dance-based. It makes sense for saying the newer artists from 2018-now are 4th gen, and the way it is determined is from the fact that they are basically performance groups.
