If Pledis hadn't joined HYBE, do you think it would've changed Seventeen's success today?

Maybe HYBE helped with international popularity, but domestically they have always been popular and growing exponentially even before HYBE existed.

Seventeen had their fandom and etc yes, but the budget and promotion and everything else wouldn't have been there.

They would have been doing moderately well of course, but they wouldn't have been as huge as they are now.

Idk of other people scared to say that, or if people just hate HYBE so much- so they wanna choose opposite.

But no, they wouldn't be getting #1s and super popular like now.

Same could be said for NewJeans and same could be said for TWS if they weren't under HYBE

Seventeen had the second best selling album of 2019 before HYBE bought Pledis, they had just broken through (in terms of being like an A-List bg) and were on a clear upward trajectory. With EXO enlisting and having their "scandals" and all the 4th gen bgs not resonating with the Korean GP, it was kind of the perfect set of circumstances for 17 to make their rise. Maybe they would have sold a few less albums under just Pledis, but I think they would have still been the #2 boy group and won some daesangs.

I think denying that Hybe connections and money helped 17 would be silly, but what we know with certainty is that 17 would have been successful with or without Hybe but I am just not completely sure they would have been THIS successful without hybe.

This is such a frustrating and annoying question. Seventeen didn't become popular because Hybe bought them.

They are already million sellers and projected to continue to do so before the acquisition. Hybe’s money and international connections definitely helped them explore other markets and strengthen their presence but they’re already the #2 active BG.

They at least helped HYBE image in BG area — having Top 2 biggest bg right now.

Popularity wise I doubt Hybe added anything. I think it’s more of a coincidence that they happened to acquire pledis whiles svt was growing. I mean their markets are still the same post acquisition.

But i do feel svt did get more international popularity after being under hybe and increased their fanbase even more. Even their presence on kcharts have become better. Hybe did give a career boost.

Seventeen already won daesang, selling millions of album, hit 1M sales before acquired by Hybe. In fact, Hybe eying Pledis 100% because of Seventeen's fandom strong buying power. They also didn't do bad in charts like most ppl thought, they were good, although not a digimon, and still consistently hit melon top10-top20 since mansae era in 2015 (when other bgs kinda flopping)

Their MV has reached 100M views also long before Hybe (DWC)

All in all: all Seventeen's first achievement didn't happen when they just joined Hybe. They already got it all.

They are that rare groups which sales or popularity NEVER decrease in every cb. Their personality also makes them the sweetheart of entertainment industries, many pds and staffs like to compliment them. In fact, they used to be MBC's golden child until they joined Hybe and thus cutting MBC's special treatment to SVT

Hmmm, 17 had several songs that charted well in Kcharts even before Hybe, from what I recall.
