because its safe to say that every girl group comeback so far have been underwhelming. itzy is not even charting anymore, gidle and lesserafim not hitting top 5 melon (tho its too early to say about lesserafim). IVE english single also is making no noise. with the rise of 5th gen boygroup, is it indicating that the 4th gen girl group trajectory is coming to end, with only NJ being the last one standing?
is it the end of 4th gen girl group trajectory?

I've said it before and I'll say it again
there are many definitions of the word "flop" as it relates to charting
1. to not chart at all - fairly obvious that if one fails to enter the charts at all then it's a flop
2. to not chart as well as previous songs - this is fairly understandable that if a group had a PAK for one song but the next song only made it (let's say to the top 20) then one might argue that since the song didn't do as well as previously then it's a flop
3. to not chart as well compared to their peers - the question who one's peers are is important since charting is by it's very definition about who one is higher or lower than...some people will say if x charted worse than y then x is a flop
4. to not chart as well as expectations (this is the most subjective) - here a group flops because there is an expectation that certain groups will perform well whether based on prior success or company reputation...this generally applies to the larger or more popular groups - ie. if IU failed to chart (maybe) in the top 5 then one might argue that because of IU's prior successes then her level of expectations is much higher than a lesser known artist or group...
I guess the flop in the OP's post is referring to (for Gidle and LSFM) both 2 and 4 that they've charted below their expectations and worse than previously???

Looking at the songs topping the charts currently, it does looks like 4th gen girl groups era is over.

BabyMoster is breaking youtube records (with lots of ads) 5th Gen boy groups are out-charting 4th gen boy groups.
Fandoms will always cherry pick data points to make their point.
I always found it funny when I would see records like most streamed 4th generation Girl group or most albums sold by 4th generation Boy Group, because they could not outstream BlackPink or outsell BTS.
We will see a repeat of this with the 5th Generation.

Is this the part where we pretend NewJeans doesn't exist and that most of the records they shattered or even created weren't all time records?
Come now. There is no need to signal the start of the doomsday clock just because 4th Gen girl groups can't chain together multiple PAKs every release. Not like 3rd gen could do that either outside of their peak years

NJ came at the end of the 4th generation, and eventually they would stop using the 4th generation qualifier for some records.
The same will happen for the 5th Generation, while they can't compete with 4th gen records they will use the most of the 5th generation qualifier.
Once a 5th Gen dethrones NewJeans or whomever, they they will drop the 5th generation qualifier, and it will be time for the 6th generation to repeat the cycle.

BTW, now that IVE is on a world tour and when NewJeans and Le Serafim go on theirs, are we going to see threads about what 4th Generation Girl group sold the most tickets, had the greatest attendance or highest revenues, or are they going to drop the 4th generation qualifier and try to compete vs Twice and BlackPink.
I would imagine they will wait until at least their second World tour to drop the 'Best/first of the 4th Generation' qualifier.
