  • I'm still so mad at JYP for not doing this for Sana earlier when Twice was just coming off their massive 2015 to 2018 run on the charts. Imagine using 2019 to jumpstart the girls' individual promotions, letting them gain $$$ and exposure when they were at their peaks. It's EXTREMELY FORTUNATE that the girls are so popular and have aged so gracefully that brands are still lining up for them 8 years after debut.

And it's not just CFs for their visuals i'm talking about. Sana's 4D personality would have been great on television, in varieties, talk shows, maybe even acting.

Yeah...unfortunately, nothing can be done about the past now. What's important is Twice members still have alot steam in them and can still score these partnerships 7-8 years into their their career.

Sadly it's a "better late than never" situation. Makin the best out of the current situation

plenty steam indeed. 3h show in London today. And they got another tomorrow.

    It was really fun!

I feel it is a deliberate business decision to make all members dependent on the group for most of their income, so they will extend their contracts, and not get funny thoughts about going solo.

  • good for her but can you imagine if JYPE let her and the rest of twice had individual activities earlier than year 7???

There is just no way that could have happened, since they were contractually obligated to say they didn't want to do any solo work.

In the first seven years, the company's wishes always come first.

    of course

and it's not just twice but the rest of their GG and BG like SKZ only got their new individual IG accounts this year as well and itzy still don't

JYPE just don't like the members of their groups having that much solo activities at least early on - the ghost of the miss A/Suzy situation probably still haunts the plastic pants man!!!

I think it's slowly starting to get better as I see groups like skz and itzy for example having more solo activities now compared to twice when twice was in their year 5

But Suzy's popularity was the best thing to happen to miss a, that help boost the group income quite a bit, and since JYPE makes the members share the profit, everyone got paid.

The reason JYPE doesn't focus on solo work as much is because it is more work for them and the split is not as good as music sales.

Besides, the stronger their individual brand, the less likely for them to re-sign. Especially if they want to do more work outside of music, like acting.

Another problem is the company being way too restricted and risk-averse.

  • that is very true

it's exactly what i think as well

for me especially with female idols (not just jype) they need to get their foot in the door for solo gigs as soon as they can to make a name for themselves outside of their group since for gg renewal with all members renewing with the same company is a rarity in kpop and thus they need to consider their own future outside of just as a member of their group

obviously twice is in a much better situation financially compared to most others but i still wonder how much bigger twice (both as a whole and the members individually) could have been had they been allowed to get solo gigs earlier
