People are questioning Nmixx's physical album sales but not NewJean's streaming numbers lol

  • You know how hard it is to fake a physical sale? Not impossible by any means, but nevertheless hard af.

Meanwhile, nobody even knows how streaming data works. Literally writers and actors in Hollywood are striking now, one of their complaints is lack of clarity in streaming data. Like nobody, fucking nobody can actually verify independently the viewership numbers Netflix puts out.

And it is no different with music streaming. Spotify themselves can fake it, companies can fake it by hiring bots, fans can fake it via mass streaming. Yet everyone is pissing hot geysers if it is questioned.

So now I will ask a similar question that was asked here about certain groups's album sales here. How the fuck is Newjeans getting all those Spotify streams, entering top10 in US but not sell out stadiums?

  • NJ's have catchy songs, big label push and a mountain of paid playlisting...

Also many people have called NJ's out over this, ever since as rookies they randomly got added to TTH with actually having a hit song. We know streaming is boosted and artist take advantage of playlisting deals, autoplay, in app ads, etc to boost their group's streams and visibility. This is way more explainable.

Even taking into account mass streaming from fans, bot farms, etc you can still make the argument some fans are behind it. Sales for a group that can't get 300k likes on an MV in 4 days? Are getting 215k daily streams, unfiltered btw, on spotify on a brand new song? That's massively sus...it will only get even more suspicious when they struggle on domestic album charts next week...I think it's fair to ask where are those sales coming from.

  • I wonder If the users of this forum act purposely obtuse when they want to "match" touring and streaming numbers/album sales as If It makes any sense and the acts were going exactly to all the countries and cities they have big purchasers and everyone who is streaming a song because It's cute and catchy will pay for a concert ticket.

But, anyway, NewJeans haven't started touring yet. They just did their first ever dosmestic fanmeeting 2 weeks ago. Like, let them breathe.

And this goes for NMIXX too. The obsession about their accomplishments is weird.

so you expect a rookie in the first year, to sell out a stadium not even in their country? Got it, and they are not even touring.

I can list some Western single that has more stream, and more ML than NJ ever will(at the moment) and they can't sellout stadiums in their own country(US)

I don't have anything against NMIXX, people are suspicious of their number because the issue is not only streaming stats, but their engagements are very weak for a group that sells nearly 1 mil in the first week.

If you really don't know how ridiculous NMIXX album numbers are,

then I will give you some references.

NMIXX is selling 970K albums in 5 days.

TWICE — READY TO BE (2023) 651,205 copies in the first week (Of course twice the number should be higher because I think Japan and US sale is not counted?)

    ITZY:

1st Day Sales (Hanteo): 275,189 copies sold
1st Week Sales (Hanteo): 633,248 copies sold 1st Month Sales (Circle): 779,455 copies sold
Total Sales in South Korea (Circle): 1,056,316 copies sold

For other references: Newjeans sell only 800k the first week after their smash hit in Hype Boy, Attention.

so that is why people think it is weird.

  • Hybe payola is all about streaming services while JYP said his measure of success is album sales. Both company are focusing two type of promotions.

I agree NewJeans has hybe money doing all kinds of stuff that doesn't look right. But NJ gets away with it because they are from bigger company.

  • You know why? Because their songs literally everywhere for people to even questioning them. I don't even want to questioning their streams when I'm on that level of feeling nauseous everytime I listening to their songs because of how much I heard it from literally everywhere I go. Not to mention their Spotify data, their youtube music streams, their korean chart, japan chart, Apple music streams, tiktok and pretty much everything else are all on par. No company will able to do this lol. And why you pretend like their songs are not consistently viral too.

And not to mention that streams didn't reflect to concert tours. Olivia Rodrigo with all that streams will never able to sell out a stadium, even Miley Cyrus unable to do so. Is that means their streams are all fake? Fifty Fifty even have more ml than them in the us but can those girls doing a stadium tours based on their streams alone?

  • oml, both are big labels. NJ is popular internationally and I know a lot of people who at least know of NJ. NM has jyp fans, plus they're gaining more and more fans these last batch of comebacks after they changed concept(?), you also have to take into account many other factors.

Just be happy for both for goodness's sake people. :pepe-just-smile:
