what happened to not watching the idol.. The premiere episode of ‘The Idol’ has now outpaced the premieres of ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The White Lotus’ in viewership

This show was embroidered in controversy from the get go, and you all know how the saying about bad press goes. Velma broke all those streaming records and it surely wasn’t because of glowing reviews lmao. The idol’s also promised to contain a lot r rated scenes which holds a certain “appeal” with a certain demographic curious to check it out *yuck* So all in all it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many people tuned into it at least at the beginning

do you know how people will check out a new song release and it will do great numbers even though the song is dogshit, and that's literally just cause their last comeback was successful? That's what we're seeing with the Euphoria -> The Idol transition
Time will tell if their hype holds up, meanwhile

Idol is A rated show and people love A rated shows.

those numbers arent that impressive when we are talking about a show that has one of the biggest popstars ever: the weeknd. with the Euphoria director and with a lot of publicity due to its controversial scenes. They're comparing it to Euphoria and White Lotus Season 1, that were new shows that depended more on word of mouth and quality. The idol did 300k more than Euphoria Season 1.
Ep 2 audience also decreased from week 1.
The Weeknd should've stuck only to the show's soundtrack. It would've been much better for him and the show.

I guess the only ones who wouldn't watch it are prudes.
nah this is just a badly written, poorly acted show that relies on trashy materials for the shock factor, not making actually good, watchable content lol. not watching it is not about being a prude, it just means you value your mental health 😂 if you want something raunchy but in a clever and enjoyable way, watch the great instead. great acting, great writing, great production value, and it’s clear the writers & producers respect the audience with the product they put out, which unfortunately can’t be said about the heaping pile of rubbish that is the idol 🤧

Well the r-rated scenes in Idol are not even that bad or disturbing compared to Euphoria and GOT, which are very popular shows. People are overreacting based on what they heard and saw from a few clips of the show. I do think the show is kinda meh and has cringe acting (especially from the Weeknd) but I think the backlash it's receiving is kinda overwhelming, as if Hollywood has never had sex scenes in their films before.

aaaaah you are forgetting about tha infamous 50 shades of grey
that film was horrible, the script was trash, the actors look unconfortable saying that trashy script, and the sex scenes were even worst. I saw one and couldn`t understand the hype
but there you have it, people would flock in movie theatres to watch that trash.
i think i am going to try to watch first episode and decide for myself.

euphoria had Drake exec producing and had zendaya as its main promotional factor, it's not some nugu show to be fair. But the fact that it made as much of an impact as it did anyway is still remarkable
White Lotus is unironically great
