NJ breaking BTS/BP records proves K-pop is not peaking any time soon
Every day someone proclaims that Kpop has peaked, and every day they are proven wrong lol.
What's happening is the result of two things, Izone and Aespa:
Izone being forced to disband in April 2021, which opened the floodgates for the rest of 4th gen to finally shine on their own, no longer being held back by Izone's blinding stardom.
It's no coincidence that only THREE WEEKS after Izone disbanded, the Korean general public finally opened their hearts to the 4th generation of Kpop and it was Aespa's Next Level that ultimately threw the knockout punch against both IU and BTS, sending them both towards hiatus. Ive, Idle, LSRFM, NJ all blew up in the following year or two.
The gloves are off now. BTS no longer has a stranglehold on BGs and we're seeing Dream and TXT actually making inroads with the Korean GP with two top 10ish songs on Melon. And for GGs, we're obviously in a royal rumble free for all, with ferocious competition happening across every chart, whether Melon, Hanteo, Gaon, Global Spotify, Billboard Global 200, Billboard 200 and Hot 100. Unlike the 3rd gen BGs who are all at rest now, 3rd gen GGs are still scrapping and clawing for survival like RV, Twice, and BP.
