If the rumors are true, it makes sense why JYP is taking a no tolerance approach

  • What happens in her private life unless it’s a huge scandal shouldn’t be a reason to quick her out. 😒

    She’s 18 anyway.

I was under the assumption she was 17, but even if she’s 18 it shouldn’t just resolve the issue completely, I think she’s still really young and it could go horribly wrong for her if these rumors were circulated by a malicious source.

18 is still a minor in Korea. From what I know, 19 years old is the age of consent in Korea. If you read most of the Korean comments in regards to this (disgusting and baseless) rumor, most people are upset at the fact Jinni is a minor and her ALLEGED boyfriend is an adult.

I definitely don't believe this rumor, and I think anyone spreading it in Korea should be sued especially since Jinni is a minor. However, I wouldn't be surprised and I would understand if JYPE kicked someone out for this because it ruins the image of the idol and the group overall (but only if there was some kind of threat of it being exposed). And, as we know, image is everything over there. If this were America or a Western country, I definitely don't think this would be as much of a big deal. Millie Bobby Brown moved her like 20 something year old boyfriend into her parent's place when she was like 16 and no one gaf. Billie Eilish has been dating dude's in their 20s and 30s since she was 17 and literally no one cares.

It's cause it's Korea that this is an issue.

But let me repeat, I DO NOT THINK THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO JINNI, and ANYONE SPREADING THIS IS SPEAKING ON THE SEX LIFE OF SOMEONE WHO IS TECHNICALLY A MINOR IN SK EVEN IF NOT A MINOR INTERNATIONALLY.

  • I just want to say a stories that I've read in the past revealed by Idols themselves, from 2nd/3rd generation

there were people who were living in dorm with manager, they've had curfew, sometimes they would put light turned in room, and sneak out jumping out of window in first floor...

there were also stories about idols who were finding a 'safe' spots to hide second phones to be able to contact outside world/family/friends/lovers

I suggest also to even watch this video, one of those girls is former JYP Entertainment trainee

you can learn from it how they were using blow dryer to hid a sound made by doors,

the other girl sneaked her boyfriend to the dorm because she was the one who had single room...

So one of the tricks that we would do is we would take turns sneaking out. When we finished showering, we would use the hairdryer. Someone would stand right in front of the manager’s room and hair dry to make noise.

Now imagine if in the past when everything was much more strict even female trainees and Idols were doing this...

so imagine what current kids are doin lol

  • I'm always confused about this part. Is it 19 Korean age which is 18 or 20 Korean age which is actually 19 where they're legal adults

Okay, so here are the ages from what I looked up:

Legal Age Laws in South Korea
In Korea, the age of majority is 19 (int’l age, not Korean age). You’re an adult once you turn 19. In law, this means you can act independently (e.g., enter…

Age 19 is when you are considered an adult, but you can't drink until 20. Kinda like 18 and 21 in the US or whatever it is where you're from. Technically, you can get married at 18 (but probably only with your parents permission since you can't enter into any contracts without your parents' consent until 19).

  • She's 18 and he's 20. Even if the rumour is true, I don't understand why is it so bad. It's just a 2 year gap and it's quite common for 18 year olds to date people in their early 20s. Also kicking out idols for dating is such an outdated thing. Only JYP still follows this. She would've still stayed with the group if it were another company.

I definitely agree with you. Anywhere else (other than maybe other East Asian countries) and this wouldn't be as big of a deal.

But we're talking about a place in the world that does not even want adults to date. Or get married. Chen is still getting hate for being married with 2 kids lmao. People legitimately want him kicked out for JUST that. Now, imagine what would happen to a rookie idol (WHO IS NOT JINNI BECAUSE THE RUMOR IS BS) who is a minor being taken to motels (not even a luxury hotel but somewhere cheap -only mentioning that since a lot of comments have brought this point up to-) by an adult to have sex. Rookie idols can't even be caught smoking or drinking. It would not surprise me if a company kicked an idol out for something like this (NOT JINNI THOUGH!). Daisy got ousted for that weird dating situation with Yunhyeong, and she was an adult.

    Image is everything to them.

The problem isn't "why is it so bad" but is it illegal under South Korean law?

According to https://www.expatguidekorea.co…-of-consent-in-korea.html, age of consent is 20. Another site https://worldpopulationreview.…age-of-consent-by-country, clarifies that it's 20 in INTERNATIONAL age, not in the Korean age system.

So IF this story was true (it's not), JYP would be dealing with someone who broke the law. If that person, regarded as a minor for sexual things, was under JYP's guardianship, that can get messy.

    fun fact

in Poland you are adult when you are 18

and you can also start drinking and smoking then

and when you commit a bad crime when you are 17 you can be treated as adult by law

and when you commit murder when you are 16 (sometimes even 15) you also can be treated as adult by law

The law is usually applied to charge adults for commiting rape, for having sex with minors. And in this case, unless her guardian (which I doubt any parent would) or she herself (I also doubt anybody is this stupid) files a case for going against the law, nobody will be charged for anything. There's a reason why you would never see any minor going to jail for having consensual sex. The age of constent law exists for different purposes.

Which is why I said it was an outdated thing to do. I have seen plenty of idols being rumoured of dating this past year, and some of those rumours might be true and they might be doing the deed as well, but I rarely see anyone getting kicked out for it. Now public opinion is a different thing but their label kicking them out for it is plain cruel.
