Nah..Dynamite could very well pull 30 weeks in the top 10 tbh. Dyna is pulling 17M weekly points in it's 28th week when Boy With Luv pulled 14M in the same timeframe despite the fact that digital points are at an all-time low right now.

The only thing BWL has got on Dyna at this point is longevity and Dyna could beat or come close to it in that category as well.

Time to stop living in the past my friend :fingerk:

  • I think the list is fairly accurate as can be.

The problem is comparing 2019 with 2020, to many changed variables. And just like digital points and uls are down a lot, so have the rules changed regarding longevity and chart ranks after 2020 and especially the last chart reform. Yes dynamite is a big hit, but it would never have spent as many weeks in top 1/10 if it was released in 2019 for example, same is true for all those other songs that are breaking record with X amount of weeks spent in top 10, some that have stood for a decade.

I do think dynamite is the biggest of them, but BWL for instance had much more chart competition at the time.

  • Well that doesn't stop people from comparing 2018-20 hits with 2015-17 hits even though the digital landscape was different.

    True

The difference now to 2015-17 tho is that we had stream/download numbers available, and the charts on a fundamental level worked exactly the same from 2010 up to 2019. Everyone had a daily chart, but all services were based on the top 100 hourly charts, that was how 99% of people listened to and discovered music. It might be a dumb system but it really helped to get new songs up there fast at release, the average time spent for #1 hit song was often just 1 week if that, then it was on to the next. Having a song reach 3 weeks at #1 was a huge feat. After the chart changes basically every single #1 song (all 5 of them or so...) clears that with ease now.

After FLO/Vibe and especially melon changed to 24h and removed the top 100 hourly charts, it basically killed all that, and we have the stagnation we have now where the top 10 barely change at all in a month.

  • Dynamite doesn't just have weeks in top 10 to put it over bwl... as itiswhatitisss mentioned... As i edited in later i do think Dynamite beats bwl either way.

However, i'd argue a bit against the digital points comparisons as well. Yes it has kept a higher index many weeks in, but that is probably also (in part) a result of the lower chart competition and much lover discoverability of new songs as well, people only have time for so many songs in day and time to lookup new music etc, whereas before they just put on the hourly top 100 chart on their daily commute, which changed by the hour, they now put on the top 100 chart that never change or their own playlist that will probably rarely change as well.

I think the list is pretty accurate but as someone else said, it's hard comparing songs pre-reform to songs post-reform which is why I usually avoid posts like these lmao. We've really only got Gaon Points/ULs to compare, when those are also at an all time low due to COVID-19.

Can we expect LSG to surpass HYLT eventually? :/

imo it has been below HYLT up until a bit recently. With LSG getting 14M in it's 22nd week compared to HYLT's 13M in it's 22nd week despite digital points being at an all-time low(a small difference but..), I can actually see LSG outcharting HYLT in the long run. Even on the Daily Chart it's starting to outchart HYLT.

I just have a question. What’s a digital index and where can i check how many digital index points a song has?

They're the metric Gaon uses for the digital chart(They calculate data from the streaming chart, BGM chart and downloads chart) and those will be reflected in the weekly Gaon points.

You can use guyso or the official Gaon website.

    http://gaonchart.co.kr/main/se…ationGbn=T&serviceGbn=ALL

    https://xn--o39an51b2re.com/gaon/jisurecord

  • well i find it pretty hard to compare post reform songs to pre reforms one. songs after have waaay more longevity. this is the only hick i have, otherwise, i doubt Fancy can compare to On, the latter has way more longevity.

  • Gaon has some weird stuff happening to its digitals from time to time (eg. all songs suddenly jumping up in digital score from one week to the next, or all suddenly dropping down structurally with 20-30% in digitals), so my guess is they're doing some recalibration of their compiled digital totals algorithm or formula from time to time.

I wasn't aware Dolphin was having that great digitals? (did it?)

Not so sure if # of weeks in Top 10, Top 5 or at #1 is that telling, since it's heavily dependent on luck or who your competition is in released songs.

I'm still convinced Psycho should end up higher on that list, but unfortunately it suffered from the abrupt promotion cut off right at the start, RV's year of non-activity and the competition of the #1 and #2 on Gaon's 2020 annual chart (Zico's Any Song + Changmo's Meteor) that came out around that same timeperiod.

  • I'd put Psycho over Dalla Dalla, and Nonstop over Hip. Psycho did very well and have great longetivity despite don't have proper promotion + UL loss + no support from comeback. It stayed longer in top 10 than Dalla Dalla. As for Nonstop and Hip, just look at the stats, despite the UL loss, Nonstop spent 13 weeks inside top 10 just like HIP, in its 44th week, Nonstop rank 48th and gained 7m+ digital index with a total of 667 m+, while HIP rank 83rd, gained 5 m+ digital index, with total of 649 m+. Both group had long hiatus. RV, Mamamoo, and Oh My Girl did very well and had great longetivity despite long hiatus.

And I'd put Lovesick Girls over How You Like That.

  • In evaluating digital performance, GAON digital points are the best measure. Ranking or number of weeks on top100 is relative measure as they highly dependent on competition.

Fancy doesnt felt that big to be on top 10.

ON obviously had the better digital points+ longevity.

LSG did not hit #1 but doesnt mean it is not performing good. It was blocked by Dynamite which i believe at that time no one can overtake it (not even BTS themselves). LSG is already outcharting HYLT in term of longevity (before someone say because of reform, im talking about digital points on GAON)

  • Wasn't ON's charting a bit bumpy? I would say dynamite kinda breathed a new life into it and made it have good longevity.

ON was charting for a while on its own, even before Dyna. And regardless, it charted for longer than FANCY and outpeaked it.

Imo there isnt really much difference from 5-9.

Dolphin's status is elevated bc it is a bside. But if it and Nonstop continue doing well maybe they will be where they are now on the list and maybe nonstop will be even higher than Hip.

Dalla Dalla had the greatest gaon digitals because it did consistently well during its first 20weeks despite not peaking too high, so u could say it didnt have the longetivity but did have the start. Altho 2019 gaon digitals surely helped, none of the 2020 songs were afforded the ability to stay stable in its first 20 weeks due to COVID, the biggest losers in that aspect being On, Psycho, HYLT and LSG, so they couldnt really gain more digital points from the start and was already at a disadvantage bc of it. I think its fair to say that DD and Psycho are of the same level despite the 100M+ gaon points difference
