RE: "What does Somi have that other mixed idols (Kai, Vernon, Bahi,…) don’t have to be so popular?"

She's a soloist. K-pop fans don't include her in their politics and fanwars. You're much likelier to be scrutinized and criticized when you're part of a group as opposed to being solo.

She also has her own style and niche, so people don't really perceive her as having any competition for her category. For the most part, people don't go out of their way to find flaws with her the way they do with groups.

  • also Vernon is fairly popular in Korea.... he's just a lowkey dude. I'm sure if he went on variety shows like Seungkwan or even Mingyu he'd probably be higher profile just because Koreans do like his visual.

that actually makes so much sense its eerie...

This kinda reminds me of the "husky voice girl" from PD48; she would do awesome as a soloist because she has her own aura that would be great but putting that aura next to the rest of the girl group members, she sticks out like a sore thumb.

  • The half mixed don’t get attention because they aren’t the visuals. Nothing has to do with racism, especially when being pale/white is glorified in Korea.

It isn't come from SK. But they got mocked for being being half white by kpop fans themselves, and erased their asian descent. Calling them with any bad names etc.

If it's Harry Potter, the way Draco Malfoy felt disgust with Hermione bc she's a 'mud blood' not pure blood basically a perfect example :(

Somi was in a group. She was the center of IOI competing against Twice and Blackpink. I wasn't around for the drama at the time, but she clearly got through it well.

  • 2-3 very popular TV shows, particularly PD101.

The impact of PD101 is formidable. That IOI got less than an year, is one of the greatest missed opportunities in Kpop. PD48 was nowhere that impactful, yet Izone had the time and space to build their fandom. That impact dilutes with every new show.

Somi and the top tier of IOI - Sejeong, Chungha, Yoojung, will always have that boost of popularity, even if they do nothing and if they do anything, that will amplify over others.

Somi and Sejeong particularly, they always have had a stream of CFs even if they were doing nothing in music or acting. When they do, they get the PD101 boost.

GP adopts some people and once adopted, GP accepts them in every way. And not all Kpop idols get adopted by the GP.

The top few PD101 girls did get adopted and some from PD48.

  • None of these people are unattractive but Somi is very very pretty and would be a visual in any group. The others, while distinctive, are not the visual in their groups, are they? If you look at the most popular “it boys and girls”, none of these people match that look and style. None of them seem to suit kbs certainly.
