Nevermind white-passing, what about white conformity in kpop

White conformity in kpop is the deliberate attempt to become more acceptable to white social and physical standards at opposition of one’s own natural ethnic characteristics.

> use of blue or other light eye color lenses

> frequent hair dying to blonde or similar hair color

> whitewashing of idols with natural darker skin

> inclusion of white people in kpop music videos

> change mannerism and voice intonation when talking with white people

> use of subtle or not so subtle white social tropes in music videos

> endorse or model for white-owned businesses

> minimize unique aspects of their culture so “white people don’t feel uncomfortable” with things that are too foreign to them

> try to blend in with the white mainstream media when promoting overseas

> even use virtual characters with white features

These traits can represent all cultures/ethnicites Asian people do have green, blue yes, blonde/brown/red hair. Brown eyes and Black hair are not the only representation of Asians. So when idols have some other color than black/blonde they are actually representing the minority that do not really get represented a lot.

Central Asians have their own identities. They have been mixing with steppe tribes and Scythians from Eastern Europe for thousands of years. Just because some Uyghurs have blue eyes it would be ridiculous for a Han Chinese to claim “bLuE eYeS aRe AlSo ChINeSe”, especially when Uyghurs were oppressed and continue to oppressed by them.

Iranian farmers, Indo-European tribes, Turks, Mongols, Arabs, Africans, Nepalese, South East Asians. Darling those people on that list are still Asian. The point is, just because you change your hair color and wear colored contacts doesn't mean you are trying to copy a ethnicity. It is called trying new things! Kpop idols color their hair multiple colors including purple, pink, blue,yellow and many more. Are they copying animals and aliens if they color their hair something that is not a natural hair color.

The term Asian is derived from European perspective. Historically Indians, Chinese, Arabs, etc. NEVER considered themselves Asian until they were colonized by Europeans and they were conveniently lumped into one group for the benefit of Europeans. If you look at the traditional art and paintings from these cultures none portrayed people with blonde hair and blue eyes unless they were depicting people of foreign origin like Tocharians or Scythians. The popularization of blonde hair/blue eyes came from colonial and post-imperialism of Western white culture to the rest of the world.
