Rookie of the year. The award that's all the rage here. How important is it? For me not much. It says nothing about a groups future. Even some flops have gotten it.
How important is the ROTY?
-
-
I'm sure it matters to the rookie groups
-
Not important like at all lol seeing ive stans going crazy over every troll suggesting ive shouldn’t win it was so bizarre tbh. a) it was so obviously bait, why are yall having a conniption every time shitting on the other groups that are not ive to prove it to trolls, and b) roty is one of the least important main awards to win. The only thing yall should care about is aoty or soty. Weeekly won a roty only less than 2 years ago and we all saw how that turned out for them
-
it pbly helps the groups get more eyes on them. If they comeback with good music, it'll help

But i don't think outside of stans anyone keeps track of these awards.....
-
if my favs get it then it's relevant otherwise mehhh

Not that people keep track of them. Just that it's publicity for them when they win. A kpop fan who hasn't listened to them before might check them out when they otherwise wouldn't have
At least I check out acts that people are buzzing about even if I'm not that interested

You over exaggerated. No one mentioned Ive just the award itself and the implications. But sure in every roty thread i bet I'd find you making comments in every one or lurking how else would you know all these

I guess this also depends on how popular the rookie receiving the award is for this to work. Popular rookies like ive and nj already have the buzz and roty will only be another addition to their achievements. Now a group like weeekly it's good publicity but i don't think it made a difference to their popularity overall.

Hmmm..... I am a fan of ive. I think they are already getting the best rewards for their hardwork this year which is people loving their music and the group name getting more popular and even members and building a fanbase.
-
in the grand scheme of kpop things, not really 🤷♀️

i don’t even understand what you’re trying to say? lol I don’t comment on every single thread i visit on this website bc otherwise i’d go insane, but i do visit a lot of them so i have quite a clear picture of what’s going on in topics that i talk about, so my observation wasn’t made in jest. it’s not only roty threads i visit and obsess over if that’s what you’re trying to insinuate lol they’re not that special
-
-
Oh so when nj is shit on by everyone and their mother for a multitude of reasons it’s what they and their fans should take as entertainment and indulgence bc all the insults are not serious eh, but when trolls suggest ive doesn’t deserve roty it’s perfectly fine to shit on the other groups in the name of entertainment even tho it shouldn’t have been serious in the first place bc trolls shouldn’t be taken seriously right? like make up your mind about the narrative lol the double standards is hilarious. if multiple people from every fandom started chiming in about how nj is so much better than ive in every way and deserves everything that ive doesn’t deserve let’s see if you’re gonna keep the same tune that these replies are not serious lol the hypocrisy
-
-
Obviously liking any group is each person’s own interest idek what that has to do with this thread when the importance of roty is discussed and i only brought up relevant examples to further my point lol who in their right mind would let what other fandoms say affect their liking of a group?? that’s ridiculous. And it’s rich for the unaffected to make fun of the affected and claim “it’s not that serious yall should chill” even tho you’re not in their shoes and have no right to speak lmao that’s similar to a classic bully’s tactics to ridicule the bullied for being so weak and not being able to take all the bullying as just a joke
-
U all can qoute each other ? lol

hey they didn’t have the balls to quote me first i don’t see why i have to do that to reply to their non-quote

Important for the fans or for the idols themselves?
I think for the idols themselves, it kinda important for their rookie years because they really working hard for years so they can included in debut lineup and they need to working even harder because now there will be many groups from different companies. So if they could get one, it really pay off all of their hard works till that day.
So that's also why it become important for their stans. They wanna give them the appreciation that their favs deserves.
-
It depends on whether company and group prioritize ROTY or not. All awards are some sort of acknowledgement of success and hard work of artists, but not winning them doesn't stop artists from being successful. ROTY is great for short term buzz (and bragging rights), but It isn't that important in the long term.

I guess there is a certain accomplishment behind it for idols. But doesn't say anything for their career future in some cases.
-
For idols themselves, it's one of their dream, such a huge achivement for rookie who work hard during their difficult trainee days. It's also once in a life time achievement, unlike SOTY, AOTY, etc. They can only get ROTY on their early career.
Sadly, indeed fans using this achievement for bragging on fanwar rather than the appreciation itself for the artists.

No award is important for any group's career not even deasangs. It's only for the satisfaction of members & bragging rights for fans
No clowning about this. It doesn't make or break a career

Weeekly and Pristin are proof that ROTY can’t save careers. And even miss A is proof that a huge rookie year can’t build a fanbase. Twice didn’t win as much ROTYs compared to Gfriend but look at the two groups now. And the male ROTY this year would be another sad case. ROTY doesn’t matter in the long term.

Gfriend did have a better 2015 but that didn't mean anything for the rest of their career cause once twice blew up they kept rising.
-
It's the only category you can only win once in your career. I think It's very important. Every year, so many groups are debuting. So It's prestigious for a new group to know they are standing out.
I get the sentiment behind it. But even if it's a category u can only win once it kinda matters the least long-term

I think It can be said about any award, If you think about it. I mean, It's better to have a stable successful career through your whole contract and never win a Daesang, than winning in the 2nd year of your career and flopping all the following ones.

Like someone said here no award actually ends up mattering for sustaining longevity through out career
