I knew they made some of their own music at least, but I didn't know it was this much! That's incredible! It must be a lot of work for them, but it shows, their songs are pretty good.

Day6 writes 100% of their songs, and composes probably almost all of em. Different members take part in composition for different songs. Not only that, they are also credited for the instruments that they play respective for the songs
They even do like a vocal guide or something.
Like these 2 uploads, Sungjin and Wonpil who composes the song they did a vocal guide on how the song is sang by singing it, and then uses this as a guide to split the lines

That's smart of them to do, I'm glad they did that.

I wish more groups had this much freedom. I wonder if just bands in general are allowed more autonomy
Im not sure if it's because they are a band they have more autonomy. Maybe? But there is definitely more authenticity I get from bands in general (not just Day6) than idol groups.
Day6 is actually I think the first JYPE group that they gave more freedom in terms of the music they produce. I think even GOT7 (before Stray Kids) was more restricted. But then again the company do end up selecting from the songs they write and chooses which to release. Jae once said in an interview they will write say 30 songs and the company chooses 5 or 6, and when asked if there was anyte where they feel strongly for a sing to be released but the company chooses not to he said no.
