Changed the title of the thread from “Korean government back on their BS (Recent BTS exemption news)” to “Update on BTS exemption (August 1st, 2022)”.
  • Go to military. But if there’s concert or anything that can benefit you, BTS must go as well. Let’s milk BTS dry shall we.

    Unbelievable.

A lot of you guys are misunderstanding. It’s not a “must”. It is rather “if they want to”.

What the article is saying is that basically BTS will enlist but they will be given the privilege of having concerts intermittently within their service if they want to.

BTS benefits from this compromise at the end of the day. I honestly don’t get the outrage. I’ll rather have the possibility of ot7 concerts in the next 3-5 years than nothing at all

Will they allow them to practice in reference with the concerts? Because we all know they practice hard before the concert happens... I hope this is not just, okay you can go for 3 days to perform because we all know they practice for weeks/months beforehand.

    Well let’s hope you’re right.

  • Their government is so indecisive. If only they didn't drag this shit out since 2018- people won't make it such a big deal and less korean incels will be outrage. Just make a fucking decision and move on. This is confusing the members as well. Or just let them enlist peacefully!

  • This actually sounds reasonable. If they want to schedule a world tour and go as 7 they can. If I am not mistaken their enlistment would allow them the flexibility of still being a group

Koreans/knetz will hate them for favouritism. I can only imagine the outrage and I don't want the boys to experience that. Not to mention, negative press (sabotage) from other kpop companies. You know, the past...

Plus, doing the service and having to practice and travel can be seriously mentally and physically exhausting. I’d rather have them serve normally than working double time. Also as you have said, bullying and hate is also one of the things that might happen due to the favoritism.

Recent public polls have shown that more than 60% of voters were ok with BTS being given exemption and those who voted against it said BTS must enlist and serve

This is a situation where BTS will still end up enlisting and serving at the end of the day. Unless you genuinely hate BTS, there’s nothing favoritism about this

  • Same. And depending on what will be decided at the end of the talks the members may have to enlist together if it’s an alternative service

This would make the most sense. I have read on other forums that having them go in for basic training

  • Any type of reduction in service is a positive for me. And this new talk by the minister of allowing them to tour sounds pretty good as well. I will be cautiously optimistic. Today is the beginning of August. We have say two months before 07 is back together for an incredibly big concert

  • THIS WON'T EVEN BENEFIT BTS AT ALL!!! PEOPLE ENLISTED IN THE MILITARY APPARENTLY AREN'T ALLOWED TO MAKE INCOME DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR SERVICE!!! SO BTS IS WORKING DOUBLE TIME WITHOUT EARNING WHAT THEY USUALLY GET IN THESE TOURS!!!

I assume that if BTS goes on a giant world tour, they would be dismissed from the military for a certain period of time which would allow them to keep their touring revenue

There is favoritism and you know it. That survey you mentioned was made with only a thousand people and it was far from reflecting the opinion of the entire country of 52 million. First, there is no mention of a concert tour, only one or perhaps a few concerts, which will most likely be concerts for their political benefit. Like a Busan concert. If they are indeed given leave from the military for a major world tour that could possibly take six months, South Korea will tear them apart on social media for being privileged. Also, what about the situations of making money from these concerts or concert tours? There is nothing clear about it. Because even if they give a concert, they will still technically be soldiers as they will appear "on leave". So according to the rules, they will not be able to earn money. Whichever way you look at it, there is actually nothing that benefits BTS.
