Looking at the popularity of big3(4) groups nowadays, makes me respect BTS's rise even more

tbh bts was VERY ahead of the curb during their early days. idols didn't just make their own content the way bts did. if you weren't getting invited to variety shows or didnt have a group variety show, you weren't getting much content back then. bts were able to show their personalities in an authentic way and people loved it. not to mention the members are all very good people which is rare in the entertainment industry. add their knack for performance and hard work and they couldn't be beat. no group will ever be able to replicate what made bts worth so much.

its really hard for any group nowadays since before it was big 3, now it is 4

This. They never stopped loving music and performing. After watching Hobi on IU's Palette, i am reminded again how passionate and genuine these guys in their craft.

As another not-BTS Stan, I'd add that they're amazing performers. Imo K-pop doesn't always lend itself to live performance. They concentrate so much on perfection and sounding exactly the same as in the studio that it lacks the immediacy of live, that's not perfect but more intimate and thrilling for it. The choreographies are mind-blowing, but optimized for camera and not adapted to a massive stage. Here's a crappy picture I took at a K-pop festival that kinnd of illustrates this point, it's a huge stage and they only use a fraction of it. BTS are stone cold pros, they know how to work a crowd and fill a stage. They're also fantastic dancers but at the same time they can make it look effortless and that comes across in their most recent music videos too. Being good without looking like you're working too hard is always attractive. I don't know any of the members but if someone threw a ticket at me I'd go and see them in a heartbeat.

imo, I know of some of their songs early on but it was their dance practices that really got to me. It was magical and mesmerising?

BTS didn't help kpop fans to acknowledge smaller groups. Indeed currently the state of idol market was never WORSE from small agencies

This is because BTS created a titanic kpop force which is Hybe, bigger than any Big3. Worse, while Big3 was just an agency Hybe is a conglomerate that will issue several groups to get ever bigger market share and drowning kpop listeners with them

Moreover BTS promoted a shift in the focus on kpop from korean/Japan to worldwide. It comes to no surprise that you need high investiment to farm fandom from all over the world, which make the gap between big and smaller companies even wider.

I am familiar with kpop since the second gen and what made me BTS fan at the time was their uniqueness as artist and sincerity in music/message/performance that shined brightly and differently from the rest.

Honestly I think this played a huge part of bulding their hype and is one of the things that have influenced the current landscape of K-Pop the most. Like I remember when I entered K-pop at around late 2015/early 2016, the hype with BTS was already inmense and the Bangtan Bombs completely changed the way many people perceived K-Pop, BTS was this relatable group of crazy and funny boys everyone was talking about, if to that you add the dance practices like the War of Hormone ones where they just messed around and their talent on variety shows you already have a group with crazy potential.

nope lol, they have privilege as having Wonyoung and Yujin but u can't say this privilege is same as debuting from big 4.
