i dont think new users should be able to immediately post threads... there should be a minimum amount of posts they need to have before its an option. would reduce the amount of bot threads and weirdo troll threads.
suggestion about new users

I agree with this.

I agree with this idea!

I used to be on a forum like that, but your account had to be three days old or you had to be active for x amount of minutes.
-
-
Was this a thing in the past? I thought it used to be like this? Or am I mistaking it for another forum...?
it used to be, on the old forum.
But to be honest I don't agree with it.
Yes, some bots and trolls might escape the mods but it also allows new users to be able to interact more quickly.
I'd rather have one genuine newbie and 100 bots than those bots posting 5 posts or 10 or whatever to get the amount they need to make a thread just to link some dumb casino website.
-
users don't need to make threads to interact though... having a minimum post limit would actually encourage them to interact more with the forum and would weed out the alt trolls
honestly the amount of new accounts i've seen make weird ass threads then get banned and just make another account within the hour is too much not to mention the 20 bot threads we had just 2-3 days ago

To each their own I guess? Spam bots and trolls are a part of pretty much any forum.
Imagine putting a 10 post limit, ok?
Then you would have all those bots and trolls replying to random weird threads and resurecting threads from years ago.
It was what was happening before.
So instead of deleting one thread and banning the bot, the mods would have to delete ten posts, plus one thread and ban.

It actually makes it easier for us to find them when they just make a thread. Rather then spreading spam in the comments everywhere.
I guess that's the rationale huh?

I don't like the idea, sort of like Reddit and I found that set up stupid.

it's already been suggested but johnny says nope
eta: if i'm not mistaken! i don't want to spread fake news
Accurate.
The reason is that such a restriction deters new users from jumping right into participation, such as making their own introductory thread.
If anything, we used to have a 25-post minimum before a user is permitted to make a thread, but that was taken out for this very reason.
As you can see... Pros and cons, but I can get behind that reasoning. Several wrongdoers shouldn't ruin it for the good ones.
Let's also look at it this way. If a problematic newbie makes a concerning thread, it's much easier for any of us to spot than if they were to reply in some obscure threads. Usually, the title is already a clear giveaway.
We'll have to live with this for now, but I'm optimistic we can make it work! I trust that we can collectively watch out for spammers and questionable newcomers. That means reporting. Even if we don't take any immediate action as mods, at least the user will be on our radar.

I think that imposing a character limit for thread titles would be a good way to deter spam. Most i've seen in recent weeks will usually paste anywhere from 10 to 15 lines of Chinese content at once. I'm just thinking it might be beneficial to implement such a restriction. No one really needs to build a 139 character thread title in here I guess.
just my two cent, as a N00B myself

glad you like my aesthe JooE's da bomb! I agree

There used to be a rules like that. That you had to post 20 or 30 comments before you could create a thread. Not sure why it was removed. Helped to prevent spam and trolls
-
What about the introduction threads?
-
I would agree if it was a pretty small amount of posts you'd have to reach. Isn't it like you need at least 15 posts to comment on someone else's wall? It could be the same thing for posts before making threads.
-
But it is kind of a problem since I see so many accounts being made with the sole purpose of advertising (and you know when they're bots) so they usually start doing that within their first few posts.
