what about SNSD's Kissing you? I don't know about much about charts but I always see them perfoming this song among their hits, so I've always wondered if it was popular:/

Though I guess at that time Wonder girls would have dominated the hypothetical gaon chart ^^

It was a hit yeah, but at that time WGs were releasing their biggest hits + ifans weren't even around back then so many don't even know about it.

I don't think it would have been a #1 song like the rest though so that's why I didn't mention it, but people thinking SNSD was underperforming before Gee are definitely wrong.

There’s no evidence they would have all hit number one

There’s barely any metric out there that would indicate that SNSD are even in the top 3 of such a ranking. Even using metrics that predate Gaon ;judgingpepe:

I mean the only songs that didn't hit it fr were Gee and Genie. I hope you don't have any doubt about Gee and we could discuss about Genie, as you said it's impossible to confirm it, but considering how impacted the Gaon digital chart was by downloads, how it was SNSD's first comeback after Gee, how it peaked at #1 in the Melon weekly chart, and how there wasn't any other big new release at the time, I'd say it's almost guaranteed they'd have gotten it. If you want to insist there isn't any evidence I'll though I'll give you that, you're right.

2NE1's song "I Don't Care" blocked Genie on everything, denying it music show wins, charting on melon etc, so it probably would have only peaked at #2.

If we were including pre-gaon, 2NE1 would have had 3 more #1's so 12 total #1 hits.
They really don't get the respect they deserve.

Genie was #1 in the Melon weekly chart the week I don't care was released (it was a mid week release) so that week would have been for Genie for sure and then yes, I don't care would have gotten it later.

It's true 2ne1 would have more #1s in general, actually if I was forced to choose just 1 I'd probably say 2ne1, but their way to promote and the amount of comebacks was that different that I don't think a direct comparison is fair, that's why I put them on the same level as the rest.

SNSD have 7 number ones on Melon, their first was Gee. They would not have 9 consecutive number ones if Gaon had existed earlier. Only two of those in Gee and Oh spent more than one week at number one and Oh only spent two ;judgingpepe:

Wonder Girls have 8, Twice have 8, Sistar 7 and 2NE1 9, 10 if you include their collab with Big Bang. Davichi also have 10 and maybe more that I’m forgetting :pepe-narrow-eyes:

I'm not sure if your post is talking about mine but all the songs I mentioned in the post above reached #1 in Gaon apart from Genie and Gee that, as you said, reached #1 in Melon weekly and would have gotten a #1 with the Gaon system too for sure. The record I was talking about was the 9 consecutive Gaon #1 hits that Twice and Sistar hold right now, not Melon. If we talk about Melon Twice's streak would have stopped with Likey for example. Obviously these records are not the only thing we should focus on, actually I'd even say they're a bit overrated, but I just wanted to point that out since it's a record that often comes in this kind of discussions.

Sistar, 2NE1, SNSD, Wonder girls and even T-ara before the scandal would all have arguments to be #1.

I really have no idea why SNSD's digital power is so underrated. All their comebacks between Gee and Party were #1 hits. The record Sistar and Twice have with the 9 consecutive #1 songs would be SNSD's too if Gaon existed in 2009 (Gee, Genie, Oh!, RDR, Hoot, The boys, Dancing queen, IGAB, Mr mr and Party all reached #1 which would make 10, but they released Catch me if you can before Party which wasn't a proper comeback but people would have used it to leave it at 9 songs i guess). Their b sides also performed pretty good and even have some small hits among them.

It was always said that 2NE1 had better digitals but their way to promote was really different, with less comebacks but promoting more songs, they said all their songs were hits but they barely had proper b sides, it's like saying Cookie or Ditto are b sides now. With this I'm not saying SNSD did better but a direct comparison is really complicated. Sistar's situation was really similar to SNSD too. Finally Wonder girls' peak was 2007-2008 and it's even harder to compare them but they should definitely be included at the top tier.

Also just with the songs NJs have released in 6 months they'd probably make it into the list

1/2/3/4. SNSD/2NE1/Sistar/Wonder girls (+Davichi if we count them)

    5. BP (+Bol4 when they were a duo if we count them)

    6. T-ara (probably with the top group if they didn't have the scandal)

    7. BEG (SUPER underrated)

    8. Twice

    9. New Jeans (Probably gonna rise)

10~. RV/MMM/AOA/Apink/Maybe you can add Ive already since they're probably going to go higher too.

It would be quite interesting if a charts account keep track of the proportion of ULs-Streams in the first 24h, we could see a pretty accurated example of how much fandom streaming each artist has, it might be the most useful thing this new Melon update is bringing.

OMG is less than 50k ULs below Ditto right now. A week ago it was around 90-100k, 2 weeks ago it was around 130k, the week of release it was almost 200k. It's not just that Ditto's ULs are falling which is completely normal for a song released 40 days ago, but OMG's ULs have been rising all the weeks since the release. This last week it's just a few thousands of ULs but it's still there and if it reaches #1 it might rise even more.

At this point it looks likely we'll have other Attention-Hype boy situation. I personally like more OMG so I'm happy to see it. OMG's chorus is more catchy and easier to remember imo, so I think Ador have done it perfectly giving the boost of the anticipation to Ditto being released first and leaving OMG for later aiming for a long run song.

TXT's performance is good for them and obviously they're improving, but the chart position is mainly because of how low the ULs are right now. The numbers they're getting are still really fandom focused, they're doing super good in the realtime charts but the ULs are still on a not too relevant act level (I hope this doesn't sound too rude lol) imo. The fandoms are massive and they've too much impact in the charts nowadays, if all the charts just had a daily chart or a 24h chart which would be way better and more fair this would pass completely unnoticed.

The bar is so low for 4th gen bgs right now (I've seen charts accounts counting the days of some songs in the top 1000 instead of top 100, literally just a part of one of these huge fandoms can make a song chart in the top 1000 forever if they wanted lmao) in terms of Korean digitals that it's still probably going to be considered as smth relevant ig. Anyway I can tell you I'm 99% sure the company (also applies for others) don't give a fuck about Korean charting, they've chosen other paths to find success and they've achieved it.

I really don't like Melon uses non filtered streams, not just for this new update but also for the song ''cards'' with the streams and ULs they started showing since a while ago.

I'm pretty sure they know perfectly it's not fair, but ig they also know these things are mainly checked by fandoms so anything that boosts artists with big fandoms will be better for them. If they used filtered streams or ULs with milestones like that it would probably be IU alone in the gold tier, BTS in the silver tier with Bigbang, Bol4, Akmu... Exo and LYW wouldn't make it and some artists in silver wouldn't even be close to be there.

Also it looks armys decided to stop Ditto's PAKs with Vibe in Bugs. Pretty funny and other way to prove how innacurate and irrelevant PAKs are when smth like this can happen.

Yea, was just thinking if this comeback is something that will be tied to a jaesuk show or standalone, its likely to have a huge difference on charting if its the former, if not, i wouldnt expect it to perform nearly as well.

Yeah actually they released something last year and it peaked around #10 right? I'm not sure if it was a proper comeback, single, or just some cover or smth random like that but I remember to see it around in Melon. If it doesn't have Jaesuk's boost it might not be that huge.

    Nice
(btw why the new account? forgot password?)

I'm using temp mail (you can guess why) so I logged out once and didn't know the email lmao. I don't really care about being recognized here anymore so if you see a random with 0 posts making boring long posts it might be me.

MSG Wannabe's comeback will probably push NJs back if no one does it before. It would leave Ditto's records in around 55 days topping Melon and 8 weeks topping the charts, which would be completely crazy.

Anyway there's still the possibility of smth surpassing it before, PSY and Gidle are also likely to do it. Does anyone have any information about this Mnet show? It sounds like something that could be really huge but I don't see it being promoted around that much apart from that first announcement and the first collab.

There was an option in guyso where you could choose a song and check its evolution, the ULs and the daily positions with a graph for both Melon and Circle, you could also choose more than 1 song and compare them. I can't find this option anymore, I'm not sure if they've removed it, moved it somewhere else or if I'm just dumb or blind and I can't find it. Does anyone know if it is somewhere? It was one of the most useful options guyso had imo.

This is what happens to GGs in Korea unfortunately. Mamamoo went through exactly the same thing, i was shocked to see how much they fell off and how quickly it all happened. Like one minute they were everywhere with Hip and Maria and Hwasa's TV appearances, and now they're literally ghosts and nowhere to be found. Same thing with Gfriend, the speed at which they collapsed was frightening. OMG is in the same situation right now, one more flop and i think they will be over in Korea, RealLove and Yooa's solo made zero impact.

I'm a buddy so I'm aware of these things, but I still find Twice's situation different. Groups like Gfriend, MMM or OMG were really popular but they had ups and downs and they reached their peak of popularity because 1 or 2 trendy songs, used their momentum for some more hits and then started to fall, like you said it's what happens to GGs. However Twice were the ngg for a lot of time but they were acknowledged as the biggest gg in korea for several years. Also this comeback is doing really bad even for a GG that has lost popularity, the groups you mentioned still managed to reach the top 100 of Melon with their last releases, Gfriend for example even years after they started to fall their songs managed tom make it into the chart, but Twice has debuted at #122 in the daily chart, when the ULs of the songs are really low right now, they just got 43k ULs. It's a super poor performance and like I said Twice was a tier above all these groups so the fall is even bigger.

So New Jeans is already preparing their next album. I don't know when the comeback is supposed to be and how they're going to promote it exactly (prereleases, several singles...) but if they do it soon, let's say in 2-3 months, the domination is going to be crazy. I said a couple of weeks ago that New Jeans could get 100 weeks in the top 10 this year, but with decent timing for their releases they could even get more.

I'm really surprised by Twice's performance, I know they're not as strong as before but the charting is completely nugu level, it's so weird that a group that was that popular just few years ago now have 0 anticipation for their releases, even if it's an English track you'd expect some people to pay attention to it. We just had Kara or Snsd last year with a pretty good performance proving old groups are still acknowledged by the gp so I wonder why Twice's popularity has plummeted this much. At least the charting internationally is good ig.

Epik high is releasing a new album on February 1st. Like JBJ the comeback probably won't have as much impact as it would some years ago, but they're a huge act after all so we should keep an eye on them. I'm a big fan of Epik High's music but their last album is their weakest one by far imo, so maybe (if koreans agree with me lol) with a good album they might have a big comeback again,

If I'm not wrong PSY's collab with Gidle is the same day so it's an interesting way to start the month definitely.

Also I don't want to be too annoying with NJs but they're still rising in almost all the international charts. Also if the ''Melon allkill'' (to chart the top 3 songs in the Melon realtime chart) was considered something meritory what about charting the top 3 songs in all the charts for several weeks >.<

Well like I said before they released OMG, it was likely they were going to reach the top 3 spots of a weekly chart. There're tweets around mentioning the (few) artists that have done it before and none did it since the charts really started focusing on longevity.

First step done, next one monthly chart. If I'm not wrong that would be a first for idol groups and it was just done by Busker busker and MC Mong before. It's really likely they will do it too.

It looks like NJs might debut both songs in the Hot 100. I never really understood the hype with this chart when it's that influenced by radio plays and other things, but I know that it's considered the most important chart for the US so it might create some buzz too.
