You're right AndrewTatefan123. It was all a simulation.

Lmao the literal definition of a Koreabo* above.
At some point you will realise they’re not comparable. No-one has had the release pattern of New Jeans
You hear more about New Jeans because more than ever you’re exposed to Korean content, the translation etc. As if anyone here was meticulously following Korean forums in 2016 or that information was as widely circulated lmao
Legit idiots in this thread trying to compare on threadbare evidence
That’s what I thought.
What are you waiting for, your entire post was peak koreabo
So no answer. Just calling someone that you don't like a koreabo.
No wonder kpop fans are the most disliked on the internet

I'm a koreabo because I speak korean? Do you know how stupid you sound? Speaking a language is not the same as fetishizing a culture.

Are you like new to kpop? you do know that not everyone on this site is a child right. A lot of us were around to see most of 3rd and 2nd gen.

Ya'll bored the shit out of me. Going back to reddit

Ya'll are still going with this thread? Just go to South Korea and ask koreans, they thought twice was cute and had the catchiest songs and that was kind of it. People who weren't young didn't really care about twice because they weren't into idol music. New Jeans has a good pull with people who aren't in the their 20s and younger.
Cheer up might be the bigger song impact wise but New Jeans had the biggest debut ALBUM EVER for a girl group. An album means they like you as artists not a single.

no. im not gonna die on the youtube search hill. that's just one of many factors that tell me this is just the fans tryin very hard to hype them up.
Ive seems clearly ahead - in youtube views, endorsements, public recognition, album sales.. etc.
this is all startin to sound very suspicious how u're tryin to push nj's is the biggest rhetoric when nearly every metrics says otherwise. but u do u, sweety

nm, I just did the search using their Korean names.
and apparently the Korean public uses the english names for Newjeans and Lsf..and twice/ bp..but uses the korean name for IVE
and according to this. it seems like IVE is the successor to twice . they're showing a better trend - overwhelming both bp and twice in yt searches.
they're even beating BTS in yt searches
*correct me if i'm wrong. i just used their korean names on wiki to do the searches. it's kinda odd that nobody uses the korean names for newjeans/lsf in KOREA. - but i think when and if google recognizes the names as "music group" or "boy band" etc, they consolidate all the related names and searches. Ive/newjeans/lsf may be too "new" for google trends to fully consolidate the searches.
also, IVE's english name gets many false positives since it's identical to the abbreviation for ivermectin - esp in web searches. but since this is in korean... i dont think thats' the case here
Youtube searches is the hill you're going to die on?
Yes New Jeans has blown up. They probably have the most successful debut album by a girl group ever. And that doesn't just have to do with the numbers. There is interest in their songs but also in them as a group from people all the way up into their 40s. People see them as more than idols in Korea, you can search any korean forum and thats what koreans are expressing. It doesn't take away from Ive or Twice or their impact and peeks in korea. I never implied that Twice/Ive were much smaller than New Jeans, that's something that you concocted in your head for whatever reason. Your best excuse as to why NJs isn't the biggest girl group right now in Korea is youtube trends when you could go to https://charts.youtube.com/charts/TopArtists/kr which is much more insightful than what you've provided.

I dont think so.. infact, not even close.
I had just gotten into Kpop around that time.. and Twice was HUGE.- they had pple lining up to buy their albums for literally several city blocks in some parts of seoul. They were a national phenomenon.
I remember it so well, because i HATED Twice because of how toxic Onces were. i dont hate them now, but the past memories of onces still prevent me from being a fan.
I remember the Sone vs onces, buddy vs onces, ARMY vs Onces... EVERYONE vs Onces battles in kpop forums constantly. Onces at that time were the most obnoxious fandom i had ever seen.. more toxic than blink vs army. Onces vs Sones was on another level which succeeded Sone vs Blackjacks.. etc but i wasnt around for sone vs blackjacks.. all i remember was Onces fighting just about EVERY fandom in just about EVERY kpop forum - predominantly Sones cus they had the most fans/bragging rights during that time.. u couldnt get away....and this was right before Kpop blew up in the west .. or was in the midst of blowing up.
Twice's main competitions were.. Lovelyz, Red velvet, Gfriend, Omgirl and BP in 2016.. i think . and it wasnt even close- Twice was on top . there was no debate and the onces made sure you knew it. There were constant threads made about Twice being on TV shows - like running man, knowing bros, korean SNL, or their endorsement deals.. etc. Twice were. ..everywhere...- it was more than just album sales, Twice, just like Girls Generation before them, were in the national conscious. Everyone was hyping them up. - then of course BTS and BP blew up internationally and Blinks vs Onces vs ARMY was everywhere for 2-4 yrs.. but i digress.
but even amidst BTS and BP, Twice rose to the nation's GG status
I think pple who dont like onces just like to say twice is irrelevent in Korea or w/e cus they had only 1 cb in 2022..but i dont think tha'ts true at all . Twice is Twice- they're always on top or in the top 5 by any end of the year metric
NewJeans on the other hand, while they ARE popular..they just dont seem .. as popular as peak Twice? they didnt capture the entire country's imagination like twice had had.. we still dont have ANY idea who's on top with the 4th gen GGs. Ive seems to be the clear and run away favorites..THIS YR.. who knows how Newjeans would do next year. Nmixx is still there, BabyMonster is debuting in January.. Newjeans' all pak is impressive but they 're doing it with no real competition.
So, no. I dont think they're as popular as Twice was in 2016
"NewJeans on the other hand, while they ARE popular..they just don't seem .. as popular as peak Twice?they didn't capture the entire country's imagination like twice had had."
Koreans respect and like New Jeans music a lot more than Twice's at their peak. I've been into Kpop since 2013 and I remember how much hate Twice got from 2015-2016 for their poor vocals. There was actually a radio performance and wonder girls cover that went viral in Korea for their lack of vocal skills. The selling point with twice was never that they were great skill wise but just that they were the prettiest girl group with the catchiest songs in Korea. Not saying that any of that is true as I think twice's vocal line and music are quite good, but that that is what the perception of Twice has always been in Korea.

Sure there are antis and trolls on this website. But not everyone who says things that aren't necessarily positive about your fav is an anti. There are a lot of people on this site, myself included, that really like numbers and talking about numbers no matter what group it is. Its fun to analyze numbers and see how they interact with different variables. Twice is still extremely successful and are probably still the 2nd most popular girl group overall worldwide. But in Korea there are probably 7-8 girl groups that are more trendy than them right now.

If we're solely talking about Korea, NewJeans is bigger. Rather than having that one huge hit that sends them off to stardom like with Twice, they have a hit debut album. People keep on talking about numbers and how many weeks x song stayed in x chart. What people aren't bringing up however is cultural impact. In terms of cultural impact in korea I would say New Jeans is bigger. People seem to like their music as a whole and not just their title tracks. There are people in their 30s and 40s that regularly listen to New Jeans and enjoy their music. Twice's peak, as many have been saying, is more akin to what Ive has done in the last year. People in their teens and 20s loved Twice but when you got to the 30's and up it was more like they had heard the name but aren't interested in idol music. They liked them for their catchy titles but weren't interested further than that. And I think the type of cultural relevance that New Jeans is reaching is the closest thing we've got since when Girls generation was the nation's girl group. I'm not saying that New Jeans is anywhere near the peak of GG's cultural relevance just that they are the closest thing since them.

Didn't both seventeen and stray kids release like 20+ versions of their albums?

I mean music shows are basically useless now. I hate when I see kpop fans say "well my fave won on a music show so obviously the song didnt flop in korea lol". Most music shows dont require even charting in the top 1000 to win on them. How else would most boy groups win 5-6 times for a promotion. Also the broadcast points on music bank have made them lose all credibility since the beginning of the year. Music core can be manipulated because its based on gaon and a lot of boygroups fans mass download which makes them debut really high on the gaon digital chart even if they are no where to be seen in the streaming chart. The other music shows arent worth mentioning, that's how irrelevant they are. Inkigayo is basically the only kind of hard music show to win on but even then I've seen it happen before.

To me, it shows that the creative and marketing teams at Starship, Cube, and HYBE are making concepts and songs that are better suited for the Korean and international markets. JYP and YG were both excellent at this in the past, but ever since 2020, something's been off.
JYP: TWICE lost their Korean charting ability, ITZY's charting has been inconsistent since Wannabe, and NMIXX's mixxpop isn't vibing well with either audience. They're all extremely active but I feel like only TWICE is established enough as a group. Also NiziU is solely promoting in Japan and Jpop is not popular internationally, so they're not really a part of this convo.
SM is a mixed bag as well. They started strong with aespa; Next Level and Savage did crazy well. But this year seemed like they were completely absent after dropping Girls. aespa has the capacity to come back strong though, Illusion and Girls performed well enough. RV has always been a group that dealt with highs and lows, and 2022 was no different. FMR was a smash hit, and Birthday is a complete flop.
YG is only surviving as a company due to BP at this point. Treasure's physicals are just now starting to pick up, Winner was in military hiatus at the height of Kpop blowing up due to Covid, AKMU takes too much time between releases, and BB are doing whatever they want. It's been over 6 years since BP debuted, so it's high time that Baby Monsters (or whatever their name will be) debuts next year.
Totally agree. Things can always change. JYP was dead in the waters before Twice and that brought about a stretch of 5 good years. SM will be fine. They haven't ever gone through the drought that JYP is experiencing. YG is stable but feels a lot less impactful than say 10 years ago. I remember seeing a street interview where people were saying that people don't really think of YG too much when they think of big kpop agencies and rather SM & HYBE/bighit.
I know that you follow the charts more than anyone on here. Do you see a good chance of a JYP girl group resurgence next year or do you think its too late for both Twice & Itzy?
