Were there always so many ggs debuting at once?

I know that theoretically there are always a shit ton of nugus debuting and disbanding at any given time, but honestly, I've been here since 2nd gen and the girl group market never felt as oversaturated as it feels now. There are so many girl groups debuting from big or medium agencies that have quite a bit of fans and the competition is insane. I don't even know who to stan anymore.

Way more companies are debuting idols + oftentimes companies are debuting 2-3 ggs like HYBE has 3 ggs coming in total, JYP has 3 active ggs, MNET consistently makes Produce shows...etc. I think the closest we've gotten was 2014-2015 with Red Velvet, Mamamoo, LABOUM, Lovelyz, Sonamoo, Berry Good, TWICE, Oh My Girl, CLC, DIA and April. 56 ggs debuted in 2014 and 53 in 2015.

Baemon...is this the new YG GG that i've been hearing about since 2019? I'll believe it when i see it when it comes to their debut.

GG market is definitely getting congested. I'm worried about groups like Everglow, Cherry Bullet, Rocket Punch, Weki Meki, they're all getting left behind.

Likewise. My head is spinning. I haven't really made up my mind on a new gg, i'm probing all of them i guess.

Also, LAPILLUS is set to debut next month , another one.

because girl groups are amazing. I'm ready for some debuts, but I need to view the debuts with caution, because I cannot forget nature and chebul. they have stolen my heart.

to the other discussion - I don't think there's more or less GG debuts compared to previously (I might be wrong though) but I would say the groups that have debuted are more well known and not nugu...

which means there are more known GG who are debuting and thus both expanding the pie and consuming more of it...

There are a lot of groups that debut but you will never hear from.

the kpop gg audience is much larger and more diverse than before

it can support more gg

500k sales used to be insanely huge for a gg

now that would be a flop for the top groups

even debut gg routinely sell 200k+

50k (and implied popularity and activities) is enough to support a group

also, rv, twice, and bp are expected to wind down activities soon

many of those fans will flow to other gg

a bigger audience lead to more diversity of concepts

each gg is now more distinctive (so there is effectively less competition)

even niche concepts like billlie are doing well

(hopefully h1-key also finds fame soon...)

[edit: another factor is that various larger firms like kakao, naver, cj, etc. have been expanding their content divisions (content remains king in the streaming wars worldwide)

they purchased and funded many agencies, including for gg

a portfolio spreads out the risk - many won't do well, but some will more than make up
a lot of gg isn't bad from this perspective]

4th gen is a golden age of gg, imo
