Is SOYEON really the ace in G-IDLE?

I was just thinking about this the other day. What makes Gidle so popular in Korea?

Some might have thought it was Soojin, but this comeback has been Gidle's most successful comeback and they're doing it without her.

Some might have thought it was Soyeon, but like you said, her solo didnt make any waves.

So who is it? Is it Miyeon? Minnie? Yuqi? Shuhua? The foreign members get the most YT views but are they the reason why Tomboy is #1 on almost every chart?

I have noticed that as well. I think she's popular among hardcore fandom/kpoppies but lacks mass appeal beyond that

Soyeon is not the ace. She wants us to believe that, with her scheming ways. The only ace in g-idle is Yuqi and we all know that. Soyeon is not even close to the ace. At all. Like miles away. Maybe if kpop stans didn't just solo ride soyeon all the time they would appreciate the other members talents and not just hers.

Soyeon definitely draws power from being among her group.

Her solo actually kinda ripped that power away, so her charisma barely carried through; Her solo concept was quite confusing and she has quite the small stature, so she doesn't "take up the view" as it were. She almost relies on the rest of (G)I-DLE to fill out what she doesn't have.

I think soyeon is definitely a clear case of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

As I have personally noticed again and again, her visual is more edgy than the rest of her group; she leans hard to being that bad bih or similar concepts; but her other group members could pull of more cute or elegant images as seen in their Oh My God MV.

That being said I don't think Soyeon is an ace more than she is a sort of "hard-carry" she helps carry the group but ultimately her comfort zone is within the group.

In terms of team fighting, she is the keystone support, rather than the tank or assassin.

To me, the other members stand out more (Yuqi and Miyeon.. I love their voices). She doesn't really have enough to grasp the GP's attention if that makes sense.

Doesn't she produce a lot of g-idle songs? Hard to imagine the group without her then and she probably deserves the "ace" status if she plays such a big part of their success.

She seems like an ace bcoz she's the producer of the group and almost always has the most lines and center time in title tracks. Her stage presence is good for sure. I prefer Yuqi more than her though.

it isn't about popularity its about skills.

I think she is the kind of person that needs a group to shine/be popular. Even though on her own as a producer she is great she wouldn't be this talked about if she wasn't in Gidle (no one cared about her solo songs before and after Gidle's debut).
