STAYC is 4-gen Red Velvet

I can say this because I love both groups. I think both groups contribute so much to K-pop. Anyone who knows me would know that, so don't interpret this as a setup or anything like that.

Stylistically and conceptually, STAYC and Red Velvet share a lot of similarities:

• Both are known for vocals and music more than dance
• Both are praised for excellent B-sides. There's a lot of discussion about how their B-sides should have been title tracks.
• Both embrace the R&B sound and incorporate it well into their music
• Both remind people of the "good old days" of K-pop while also embracing modernity

Maybe I didn't think of this before because I just recently got into them, but come to think of it, Billlie has the quirky horror concept down perfectly and includes a lot of R&B just like Red Velvet did. Their B-sides definitely remind me of Red Velvet's discography.

I thought Yoon was the unofficial visual; she's been lauded as one of the best visuals of 4th gen. Their company just doesn't really push any individual member as such.

I've always seen Red Velvet as a group in which all the members had visual charms of their own, something for all preferences. STAYC also members have this going for them, but you could say this for any group.

I get what you mean, though. Irene has more of a universal appeal with the general public. Even if people don't like the group or the music, they're still impressed by her visually.

I don't really take that into consideration when comparing groups, though.

Red Velvet as a mature concept. This for the moment to my knowledge does not exist among the groups of the 4th gen. The vast majority of 4th gen groups targeted audiences is between the ages of 15 and 20.

A group like (G)I-DLE rather targets an audience between 20-25 years old like 3rd gen groups like Blackpink or Twice for example.

A group like Red Velvet rather targets an older audience beyond the age of 25.

(That doesn't mean a 15 year old won't listen to Red Velvet and a 25 year old won't listen to STAYC. I'm talking about a target market here. And this is a very important point to fully understand the concepts of groups and what to expect from them.).

That is right for now. I see a future where STAYC can go into a mature concept, though. The potential is here, although I don't think they'll go into it until a long, long time from now. They were named as an abbreviation for "Star to a Young Culture" after all. They're going to use this identity of youth for quite some time.
