What do you think attracts most people to kpop?

  • Okay, I get that. There really is more sense of community and just more to talk about because of all the activity and other content we get. Plus kpop fans are just more invested in discussing every single thing about their faves and even just details about the industry itself.

  • Ahh, there's something i didn't think about, the possibility of kpop idols being more appealing to some due to that pure, clean image. That is something that is not really offered in pop music in my country for the most part. Even if celebs here are seen as wholesome, we don't get to know them to the extent of idols so it's less convincing. Also, they're usually found out to be not that wholesome lol. And lots of celebs here go the other way with their marketing. They want to be sexy or outrageous or full of attitude or gritty.

Actually this is the reason I was able to watch kpop mvs at home without my parents finding it that weird as a kid with overprotective parents, though one could argue their is sexualization in kpop(which there actually is in both cute and sexy and other concepts) it's done in a sort of coy wink/nudge way it's portrayed that kept my parents from thinking I was seeing something bad online.

  • no

bp is pretty but I like their music a lot. I prefer catchy songs rather than super deep ones. It's a shame that they don't have more music though. I think their personalities help me connect to the group even more.

I'm more into catchy music or music that I groove to more than looking for deep meaning too. I rarely read lyrics. It's all about how the music sounds and what it makes me feel like.

Because I don't really read the lyrics, I don't know if connecting the the artist would make it more meaningful to me. Maybe I would be more tempted to read though if I knew the artist more tho.

I hope BP gives you some more music soon!

Sometimes I wonder if the way kpop combines the youth and innocence tropes with coy sexuality is any better than the overt sexuality of many western acts.

  • I love all the cozy vibe that kpop gives, I know it's fake and not real. But it's really different from the image that Western artists try to project by being more and more extreme to become viral. I think it's a very good escape from what you find in the west.

There is also a whole different cultural aspect and a different language we learn and discover a lot of things it's always very interesting.

I think it's a very good way out, isn't it ultimately the essence of art?

If you really love something, you have to know how to let go.

I get that. It's a bit of escapism.

I also love the cozy vibe in kpop. I love how the groups seem so close and even physically affectionate with each other. It feels loving and warm. Makes me wish I was a part of such a close group of people.

  • It's very maximalist, which creates a surreal world that people love to immerse themselves into. Even when the music contains more relatable themes, the visual elements capture a larger-than-life aura that easily draws in viewers.

Then, there's the content and fan service. It reminds us that these idols are humans, too.

What we get is a nice, balanced combo of surrealist art and influencer-like material to work with. It puts us in awe how these seemingly ordinary people can transform into superstars when they go on stage or perform in a music video. We end up rooting for them while also feeling a part of that world.

Yes, kpop really is an amazing well-constructed product. It should be studied in marketing classes!

  • According to the interlocutor, it is logical to compare the phenomenon of K-pop with the phenomenon of sports fans. “Just like people root for some football, basketball clubs, Formula 1 and know the history of their favorite team in detail, K-pop fans know their favorites. Serious K-pop fans unite into fandoms, sometimes dedicated not even to individual performers or groups, but to entire corporations that grow these groups. K-pop is more of a multimedia, television phenomenon, and such an avalanche of popularity is due to the fact that video content captures more and more attention of young people around the world. Video content matters. And K-pop was originally designed to exist in this format, ”he argues.
