I'll admit it I've never got the kpop generations, like what is the line between 1st and 2nd gen or 2nd gen and 2rd gen? Does 4th gen even exist? If anyone is able to explain it to me simply the boundaries between kpop eras please do!

I know Wikipedia isn't a great source for anything, but they show it by years. If that's what you mean by boundaries https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…_South_Korean_girl_groups
Idk if boy groups are different.

People with PhD in K-pop studied the subject deeply and reached a consensus on where to split the generations.
-
each generation of kpop idols have their fans of the same generation, like you don't expect most teenagers to be into TVXQ when they are in the middle of their career and approaching their 30s, that's how it works.
i am not exactly sure when does it start or end, but i think...
2nd gen start in 2003 ends around 2011
3rd gen start in 2012 ends around 2019

This part is not true at all. Being a fan of a group does not have an age restriction or a requirement.
Everyone's taste is different and music is timeless.

That's just plain incorrect. Otherwise the idea of "uncle fans" wouldn't ever exist.

uncle fans are irrelevant. majority of kpop stans who follow idols are not old, those are the ones who represent their generation.

Enjoy being wrong. I just hope people don't believe your misinformation.
Enjoy being delusional. imagine thinking kpop idols main target audience are uncle fans lmao, couldn't be me.

I never said anything about the main target audience. I said that those other fans exist, disproving your theory that generations are defined by the fans.
From my perspective what actually defines the generations is not the age of the fans, but the age of the idols. When the oldest member of groups that are debuting are starting to be younger than the youngest member from the previous set of groups, then a new generation has begun. This is usually especially apparent with groups from the same companies.
That has nothing to do with the age of those group's fans.

because uncle fans hold no weight, they are irrelevant, nobody cares about them.
they follow each other once those idols are approaching their 30s most teenagers will not be into them, that's when new fresh younger idols debut for the younger audience. get it??

how old were you when you first started stanning TWICE?
i will give you example...
when i started following kpop i was into TVXQ around 2006. TVXQ were around 22 i was about 13. then around 2012 when the third gen on idols started, TVXQ are approaching their 30s. it doesn't matter what age i was (i was like 20) most of my generation are getting older and will be moving on from kpop idols, they are no longer promoting, etc... that's when the next gen of younger idols starts, for younger audience. fewer people who still followed kpop like uncle fans don't matter, it's about the majority.

I started stanning Twice 3 years ago, when I was 31.
My point, that you seem to have missed, is that the generations aren't tied to the age of the fans, but the age of the idols. The age range the fans a group has is irrelevant. It's the age of the idols in relation to each other that matters.

As far as I understand it to be commonly agreed upon:
1st Gen: The late 90’s to early 2000’s.
- Started with Seo Taji and boys.
- Ended with TVXQ
2nd Gen: Early 2000’s to 2011-ish.
- Started with Super Junior
- Ended with groups around the time of Sistar/Apink
3rd Gen: 2012-2017
- Started with EXO
- Ended with groups that debuted at the end of 2017: Golden Child/ONF, ect.
4th Gen: Basically The Boyz and any groups after them that started their promotion in 2018 till now, as well as groups still coming out obviously.
